Got a question. While at the hotel yesterday checking out, a bunch of student were complainging about not getting their $50 damage insurance deposit back. Here's the thing
The hotel asks for a $50 deposit incase any damage is done to the ROOM. The students each bought their rooms as individuals ( there were no group rates and it was not considered a school acitivy because the actual school part ended at 11pm ) The Hotel kept that $50 for all the students from the prom on floors 3 5 and 6 but let the students on floors 7 and 8 keep theirs, becausr there wasnt much noise or damage on those 2 floors. However, some of the students on floors 3 5 and 6 were not responsible for any of the damage or noise. To add to it, many of the people who were making the noise and damage werent part of the Prom celebration. They just showed up and began drinking and celebrating with other students. The hotel was also saying that bcause other custumers who were there left and got a refund because of the noise, they were allowed to take the $50 deposit, when it says nothing about being bale to do that in the contract signed when the room is rented. IS the hotel allowed to do that? Personally, if i were in the hotel's situation, i would have done the EXACT same thing...but...the students who were argueing it had a point
Its not stated that the $50 is able to be taken if there is too much noise.
Some students didnt get their rooms until well into the morning ( 3-4 am ) because the hotel was poor on service for such a large group...1 person at the desk for 200+ people is unacceptable...especially when they KNEW we were coming.
making the mistake of putting customers on the smae floor as a bunch of drunk teenagers on their prom night when there is plenty room on other floors in the hotel...also spreading the students on a span of 6 different floors, making the noise spread THROUGHOUT the hotel rather than on just a few floors, where the noise would be kept within the students. I mean any manager probably graduated from high school and knows what a prom is.
Anyone know what they think a judge would rule on this. It isnt a LARGE amount of money...but who is in the right..the manager taking the money for reasons not stated in the contract or the customer complaining about just that?
Personally, it doest affect me, i got the room as a present to the 4 of us in the room from one of the parents. So that was pretty sweet...but we made sure OUR room wasnt the party room to make sure there was no damage there...we went elsewhere
...another stat...the guy behind the counter said that they are full on new years...many people from the states come up and stay at the hotel ( teens...drinking age is only 18 in montreal and 21 in the US... ) The hotel is packed FULL new years night and last night we ( the students ) only had 2 full floors worth of students on 5 different floors and we caused 3/4 the damage the full hotel gets on New Years night with 9 FULL floors of teens.
...i think that stat alone wins it for the Hotel. If i were the judge...Hotel gets the money! Students get bragging rights

Johab - taking what I will from your description of the night's events, and of course admitting up front that the 50 bucks in question ain't mine, it sounds to me like everyone and anyone who was fortunate enough to spend time with your crew should chalk up the $50 to "money well spent". Think of the stories you'll be able to to recall (hopefully) somewhere down the line. Those 50 dollars will seem like chump change when those tales are told at reunions, weddings, parties, or wherever.
Sounds like you had a load of fun.
P.S. I would happily spend 50 dollars to find someone who could describe for me the events of my prom night.
