what's wrong with this guy ? , this guy has a very nasty side to him ,and as we all know from his past behaviour ...people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones

The truly great competitors always seem to have a 'rough edge' to them!?
And-o absolutely digs Patty King! The guy is controversial...and THE BEST...plus, he couldn't give a rat's rumpled arse what anyone else thinks of him! Why would he???
In fact, And-o dares to say that if...IF...Patrick Roy had played forward...he would be on par (or better) with the likes of a Mark Messier, a Maurice Richard, a Ted Lindsay, a Gordie Howe...maybe even a Bobby Orr!!!
(Note...And-o leaves #99 and #66 in the category of "pure God given talent")
At any rate though, And-o would select Patrick Roy and Mark Messier as the basis of any "ultimate dream team" of all-time!!!
...And-o couldn't care less if nobody wants to hold hands and cuddle with Patrick! Patrick IS simply the best goaltender in the universe...ever...all-time...end of story...WITH NO CLOSE SECONDS!!!

Ken Dryden won Stanley Cups playing for a team that any Junior 'A' goalie could have backstopped to a championship!!! And-o wonders if Ken Dryden would even be remembered if he had been a Leaf...or a Bruin...or anything else but a Hab!!!????????????? Patrick...prick or not...was/is/will always be....wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Ken Dryden ever dreamt of being!!! ...and And-o does not understand the "Mallory" reference (did I miss a day or something???)!?!?!?!?
What are you drinking, And-o?
An argument might be made that Roy was maybe as good as Dryden, but to state that Roy was a mile better - end of story - is absolutely absurd! I saw Dryden's entire career. He won two Cups that the Habs had no business winning, especially that first one in 1971 - same as Roy (1986 & 1993) - plus four more. He was a fabulous goalie. Your propensity to favour Roy is a function of your age. There have been many goalies over the years - Plante, Sawchuck, Esposito, Dryden, Parent, Durnan, Hall, Brodeur, etc. - who can be mentioned in the same breath as Roy.

Lets stop on the Roy hating or simply putting down we all know he has a bad temper. But hey that is what made him get his determination in games and his poise, intensity level.... He would not be the same Roy. A lot of players lose their cool often Eddie Belfour lol..... Hmmm how about that recent coaching battle Hitchcoke and Ruff. Roy feels he is above other people hmm I guess I would be an prick too if I held all of those records.
People can say what they want about Roy but when he quit on the team because of a personal dispute with Mario Tremblay he showed his true colors. I consider him to be nothing but a second rate punk that happened to be good in goal. In my opinion Ken Dryden was the best goalie to ever wear the Bleu Blanc et Rouge and Patrick the quitter shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as him.....

Thank you.... The guy was a baby/quitter... Prima donna who thought he was the whole team...
I'd rather be on a team with Marty than P(at)rick any day. He mighht not have the stats, but he's got the rings and respect... I'm pretty sure he never beat is wife, too...

Let's not forget that Ken Dryden quit on the team too.
To do what? To become a lawyer? And then he ends up working for the LAFFS!

Well, he actually was doing something that was part of his educational pursuits, sort of the same thing doctors do as interns...
Let's not forget that he was called on, and really wasn't looking for an NHL career to begin with
Let's not forget that he took the job with the Leafs well after it was obvious that the Habs, for whatever reason (anglophone?) didn't retire his number... Besides, in the grown up world, if you have one, and only one team offering you a plum job, you take it...
And let's not forget that Patty went off in a huff, and instead of sucking it up like a man and leaving in due course (as Dryden did at the end of a season) , he blamed everyone but the popcorn boy for his leaving...
I still don't understand why 29 is not up there in the rafters, if his name was Guy or Jacques, it would have been up there quicker than the cloud at a Phish concert...

....... and now wants to become leader of the national Liberal Party!
Uh...... where are we going with this?

Nah, he just nailed his wife's sister a few months before winning the cup.

Why are people bashing Dryden for ending his hockey career early? It's obvious that this man had higher expectations for himself than just being an awesome athlete (no disrespect intended). He is multi-dimensional...an author, MP, business person, and professional (too bad he has to be a lawyer). Consider what Dryden has accomplished in his life and hockey is pretty small in comparison.

No bashing from this end. I have the greatest admiration for the man. I loved him as a goalie, have read most of his books, and think he's a very able politician.
The only thing that will prevent him from becoming Prime Minister some day is that he's a yawn-inspiring speaker. His introspective manner was cute when he was winning the Conn Smythe Trophy, but it won't win him many votes today. Sadly.

I was mostly being a devil's advocate and defender of crazy patrick (who carried this team to two cups that we would not have come close to winning without him)...
Don't get me wrong, Dryden was great - first goalie I idolized when I was in elementary school wanting to be a goalie. And I always admired the fact that he actually retired at his peak and chose to do something different. That's pretty impressive. And he should DEFINITELY have his number retired.
But then Dryden went and worked for the Laffs. That's pretty hard to forgive, seriously.

But it's not like the habs were respecting the guy, let alone offering him a job...
Seriously, If you were offered a half million a year to work for any team, including the Leafs, wouldn't you take it?
C'mon brook, you keep interrupting my sports fantasy imaginary land, you know where all this stuff relates to morality and hockey and such. Anyway, yeah you're right...

Sorry (best Deputy Dawg voice)....
And why it had to be the Leafs always irked me, now we're being honest... Even the 'Lanche would have been 10 times better
