I watched the Moncton vs Vancouver Game Saturday night in Moncton at the Memorial Cup. (A 3-2 Moncton win). And I am gonna holler this...what the FRIG was Gainey thinking passing over Gilbert Brule and taking Price with the 5th pick last year?!????!????!?!?????????!!!!! Cmon Bobby..I mean give us an excuse or reason..Rogaine fried your brain cells?  Out late boozing with the boys the night before the draft and fooled around on the wife, thus putting yourself in a compromising position with the Vancouver GMs? Alzheimers setting in? Trust me when I say this. Gilbert Brule is the complete package. Yes he is only 5'10 and 175, but he plays like he is 6 foot 220. He is so strong on the puck, has a nasty mean streak, can win you draws, and plays with intensity and fire that I have seldom seen.  This guy has it all. Apparently he is on a weight program that is expected to add 15 pounds to his frame this summer. If I had to compare him to anyone I would compare him to a young Marc Recci (except Recci is a winger). Sighhhhhhhhhh..this price guy better be good or I will never let Gainey off the hook for this one. The ONE TIME we get to pick at a decent level and we pick a goalie

And-o can still picture the look of absolute disgust on Andre Savard's face when Gainey disclosed his final decision to the Hab draft table!

...and does anyone else remember how the next team drafting (I think it was Columbus) practically ran up to call out Brule's name!!!

(Bob had better land us a top centre...or the honeymoon could be soon over)

We always tend to pick a goalie, damn what were they second guessing Theodore ...... Put what we need offense, defense....... I've always second guessed our drafting but of course Plekanec, Perezhogin, Kostitsyn, Higgins were all good ones.

Was just glancing at the board and you struck a nerve 33!!!  I agree 100% with you.  I watched Brule play out here in Vancouver for the last 3 seasons and he IS incredible.  Maybe BG thought he was too small, but he makes up for that with guts and grit.  As N'ild well knows I'd have taken Brule over Crosby!!!!  I've still got the program from the Futures game here with Crosby and Brule on the cover.  Of course Crosby no-showed, and Brule scored 3 goals!!!  Brule had a serious tailbone injury and was sent back down from Columbus.  The wife's yellin at me, I'm poundin too hard on the keys .......... nufsed ........ cheers buddy .....

all this Brule ballyhoo is premature , let's wait awhile and see what he and price accomplish in the NHL .........there have been a few CHL players fo the year who couldn't stick in the big show ............

Perhaps..but if I am a betting man I am betting that Brule "sticks in the bigs" before Price does.

Barry we both know that a 19 year old centre on a weak team like columbus obviously has a better chance of making the team permanently than a 19 year old goalie with potentially two former NHL number 1 goalies in front of him.

You really arent saying much by assuming Brule will make it to the bigs first.

I agree that he will be in the NHL first.  Who will be more valuable in 3-4 years from now??  Thats still unclear at this time.

price did not play well this year and was ranked a midrounder. Brule looks good, i wish we had taken him or anyone to help this team. Goalies have always been hit and miss in the draft because they need the longest time to mature.  He may be ahead of other goalies but that may be it for him. Some great goalies went undrafted, but very few great players go undrafted.

This is all just ramblings until Brule and Price take their games to the show.  Every NHLer looks good in junior.

Price played very well this year.  He was stuck on a crap team is all.  He faced 35-40 shots a game and kept his team in many of those games.  Its not his fault that the guys in front of him were a very weak WHL team.

From what i had read about him was that he sturggled so much that Roland Melanson had to pay him a visit to help him improve.

Brule...two more goals...and three more assists!

And-o's beloved Peterborough Petes are out!!!

...someone explain to And-o again the part where Price was the right choice!!!

Thank goodness Gainey landed Latendresse in round 2!!!

Andre Savard was just plain right!

...the odds of Price being a top notch goalie for the Habs is about 1/10,000....while Brule would have been leading the second line this September!

He did play well enough to get Tri-City into the playoffs despite the fact that his team had a serious problem with Goal scoring.

Tri-city will either have to mature as a team or Price will be traded to another WHL team late next season for prospects/draft picks.  I see him being the backstop of someone's playoff run next year, and as a goalie in his last year of eligibility if Tri-City still has the problems they did this season it will be time to get something for their asset.

Some info on price from Habsprospects.com

5. Carey Price- G (18) Projection: Franchise Goalie.

It was a season of highs and lows for Price, and even he himself said he did not have the same kind of season that he did during his draft year that helped get him drafted fifth overall. Things started off great for Price, being invited to Team Canada’s summer camp, then going to the Canadiens rookie camp which earned him an appearance to the main camp and even preseason action. Then things took a downward spiral after he returned to his junior club, the Tri City Americans where he struggled to stop pucks from getting by him, which caused him to have a dismal goals against average around the five goal a game mark.

Things did improve over the course of the season, although he did suffer the disappointment of not making Team Canada for the World Juniors, he was acknowledged for his play by his peers in the best of the west polls which is done solely by the players, coaches and broadcasters. Price was named Most Valuable to his team, Best Goaltender, and Best Pro Prospect, which shows he has the respect of the players in his conference. Next year Price will likely head back to Tri City in what should be his final year in the WHL where he will have his work cut out for him with what should be a very young an inexperienced Tri City team, but he should be one of the front runners to be in nets for Team Canada next year.
