RIGA, Latvia (CP) - Canadian Sidney Crosby was named the top forward at the world hockey championship while Swedish defenceman Niklas Kronwall claimed tournament MVP honours Sunday.
Crosby was also named to the competition's all-star team after leading all scorers with 16 points on eight goals and eight assists. His efforts weren't enough to help Canada medal, as Finland won the bronze game 5-0.
"He's a great kid, an intense kid who wants to win," said Canadian coach Marc Habscheid. "He's a big part of our team."
Kronwall, who had a goal and an assist to help Sweden beat the Czech Republic 4-0 in the gold-medal match, finished the tournament with two goals and eight assists.
He was also named the event's top defenceman and to its all-star team.

Simply put - why in the world was he not a the Olympics? This old boys' club mentality is BS and we need Gretz and co. to go. Otherwise we should be proud of our 6th places. Foolishness.
Yeah, sid did his stuff. He's a marked man already. One of the Swedish players was thrown out of the game for manhandleing Sid behind the Swedish goal towards the end of the second period. Another interesting observation: 8 seconds on the clock, face off in the Swedish zone, Canada calls time out. During the time-out CJ is calling the play while Habscheid stands well away with hts arms crossed gazing into the distance...
