Richard Zednik is a bit of an enigma (which Hab isn't?). For two years he was one of our best forwards, a bit of a sniper and the closest thing we had to a "power forward". Then he spends the last year looking baffled and bewildered on the ice, and we're all calling for his head and deeming him to be surplus goods.
Should we give him another shot at redeeming himself? Or is he washed up and should be sent packing? I don't know my own opinion on this one. I'd love nothing better than to see the "old" Richard Zednik return next year, but I sure don't want a repeat of the last season.
What do we do with him? Your thoughts?

I think it's time for a bit of a purge...a change in the make-up of this team..so out with Zeddy, Ribs, Sundstrom and Bulis and possibly Bonk though I am still on the fence on him.
well niller i'll ask you this , where is he to play ? i say he needs to play on top 2 lines but there is no room if we are going to give perez or kots a fair look see . ryder saks and higgs is a line , kovy needs a winger and a center , now you can pick from kots and perez or give zeds another shot , as for a center , if we cant get one from another team then i feel pleks should be given a shot , ribs is done as far as im concerned , if its me i trade ribs and zeds for some d help let bulis sunny walk and fill in the team as needed .
I think Zeddy has worn out his welcome in Montreal....time to move on for him and the team. I am also in favour of dumping Ribs, Sundy, Bonk and Bulis (although I don't mind Bulis). I think we are stuck with Bonkers for this season (at $2+ mill!!!!!) so may as well get used to that idea = 4th line specialist. Our defense need a little shake-up as well. Someone has got to go back there (and as much as I hate to say it, I think it has to be Rivet or Souray) - the d-men on this team have gotten a little too comfortable and there has been no job competition on the blueline.

Zednik was the one who was victimized with being on a line with Kovalev. Coach PROBABLY is saying GET THE PUCK TO KOVALEV! Zednik didnt get the puck often...and when he did he didnt create much. However, he can and is a valuable asset. On a team that doesnt score alot of goals...he still put in a fair amount for the games he played. We need a better 1st line center so Ryder and Zednik can work on the second line with saks and have Kovalev and Higgins on the top line. Keeps the offense pretty balanced... But i say keep Zednik at least 1 more year. He isnt chercostly or berizen...

I figure there is a team out there that would give a good trade for Zed. He's easily top 2 line for a few more years and needs the right chemistry. I'd hang on to him until the trade deadline unless there was a good off season trade offer (maybe something to bring us up the draft a little?) Losing him would just make that whole trade with WSH seem worse. Hate to do that since it was one of only a few good trades we made since 1917.
I personally am a Zeds fan. I don't think there are many wingers out there stronger on the puck than he is but he needs to keep BOTH damn hands on the stick down low and look to pass out front a bit more. The only way I would part with him is if he was part of a package for a better player or players. Bulis is a UFA and I highly doubt he will be back next season. We seem to be stuck with Bonk since he is already signed and I doubt anyone will be ringing BG's phone off the hook to inquire about his availability. I think if he continues the stronger play he showed near the end of the season that he could help the team but that remains to be seen. I just really hope the management doesn't decide to tinker with the already strong nucleus of players we have. A top level center coupled with possibly some size at forward for the 3rd line will greatly help this team.

I wouldn't consider that trade bad even if we lost Zednik. We got a few good years out of Zednik and Bulis. If I recall we got a top draft pick for Linden and we dumped Zubrus who did nothing for his duration in Montreal.
If a trade works out for a few years and the players we dumped are doing worse then I say the trade worked out. Look at what Linden has done since leaving Montreal...nothing. And Zubrus got a few points this year only because of Ovechkin.
But I would keep Zednik because he has talent. Maybe it was just an off year.
Zednik can be a great player, but somehow his head isn't in it for Montreal lately. Almost like he wants to be somewhere else. Even in the playoffs (the best part of the season for him, as always) he was on-again, off-again.
All that said, I'd rather keep him if we're ditching Bulis and Sundstrom. I think he'll bounce back. Just a feeling.
I love Zed so would have to say nay...with a caveat. (nil, is that allowed?) I want to see him back, with some assistance. As Barry said earlier: CENTRE! CENTRE
Caveats are allowed. I ask a question but have no opinion myself, so anything is allowed.

Yea. If his performance does not improve, dump him fast. His point production dropped forty percent from the last NHL season. I still see a lot of talent and at only thirty years old he is still young enough to play at a high level. I am about at the end of my patience but willing to give him a shot. He had better start delivering 1.9 Mil worth of play.
Sarge, you sound like I feel. You say Yea, but your notes are full of Nay. It's a tough call, isn't it? At 30, he should be at his peak, but for some reason, he's gone the other way.

I am leaning to Nay. He's never been the same since the Mclaren hit... doesn't seem to cut to the net anymore and I don't think he offers enough intangibles to be worth much when not scoring. If we can get something decent for him, move him.
BTW, the draft pick we got in the Washington trade turned out to be Perezhogin... I would say we won that trade no mater what happens with Bulis and Zed.
