Up 3-2 in the series coming back to Edmonton for Game 6. The place is going to be INSANE. Trust me guys, if you have the chance...WATCH the game. They are extremely entertaining. HITS EVERYWHERE and very fast paced. None of this trap style play. These teams are trying to break each other down in order to beat them, VERY good Old Time Hockey!!! GO EDMONTON!!!! BRING THE CUP HOME TO CANADA!!!!

It's that special dialect, Tikkanese, that even only a handful of Finns understand...

You said it...by the way today's Norways national day, our 4th of July so to speak, which means everybody's stinko already. Just like to wish you luck with todays final, I've already put on my customed Barca shirt with Vaerlien 7 on the back. I'll be heading over to a local pub to watch the game with that rare breede of person, a female Arsenal fan. Try not to hit the Guiness too hard after Arsenal are on the receiving end of a well deserved thrashing.(what am I saying, they'll probably sneak it on penalties like they did in last years FA cup final and those %/(#§/¤&% scousers did on Sunday)

Ahhh, you must be hitting the Aquavit my friend, as the big Arse will surely triumph! My Guinness-swigging English friens are heading over as we speak!

Now only if the Oilers can cap it off!!

I haven't started on the akevit yet, but there will be a few later on. I'm off, good luck! Wow, Bergeron the Hab hater just scored for Canada against Slovakia, putting them up 2-1!

Well done Edmonton. What a team.
Pronger's proving me wrong too...I thought he looked out of it early this season. Wow. What a team. Great to see Rem Murray back in that lineup too.

I think I've told you guys this before, but Rem Murray has a rare neurological disorder (cervical dystonia) that severely cramps the neck muscles.  My wife has this and it's severely painful and hard to treat.  That he's even walking straight, let alone playing in the NHL, is amazing.

Go Rem!  I'll definitely be cheering for them from now on.

Actually, with all due respect to Rem Murray - and I have a lot, believe me - and to the only Canadian team remaining in the playoffs, Edmonton has won the Cup five times already, and the other three semifinalists have never won, so I guess I'm really hoping that one of them wins it.

Oh well, Toronto, Boston or Philadelphia will not be winning it (nor Montreal!), so I guess I really don't care who wins.  I'll start watching again in the finals, and I just hope they're good games.

ooooooohhh, I dunno, but I think Canes-Sabres is going to be a doozy, game 7 OT affair, so you might want to give a peek...

Edmonton made some key moves at the deadline this year. Roloson and Smasonov for 2. Which begs the question. Gainey made none (oh ya...Simpson lol). Is Edmonton THAT much better a team than the habs? In other words, many here said that the reason Gainey did not make any moves was because he knew that one or 2 players would not make a difference and he is in it for the long term. So Edmonton was that much better team that a couple moves propelled them into the final 4?

Yes Rolly has been the diference, he is old too and is playing great, I respect him. I am so happy for Edmonton, nice to see deserving players getting credited, Horcoff, Smyth, Moreau, Pisani, Torres, Pronger, Bergeron....... Plouf me too I was harsh on Pronger when he started the season but now there is no questionning his dominance and wow you guys see Peca stepping it up when it matters most, always liked Peca.

Agreed, Lowe deserves credit for the moves he made. As for Gainey who is to say he did not try to make a major move, but felt the price was too high? Outside of Lowe's moves, what other gm's trade deadline moves substantially upgraded their team and had an impact on thier team's fortunes. The Canucks tried to shore up their blueline, and did not make the playoffs. Ottawa traded for Arnason, he did not even dress for the playoffs. Lundmark did nothing for the Flames, etc etc. Lamireillo, one of the best gm's in the business did not make any deadline moves. Edmonton's trade deadline moves was one of the rare times those moves have an impact. This summer's free agent and trade decisions by Gainey will be a more telling case for his abilities as a gm.

You're right barry, but at the same time it could easily be argued that Edmonton just got hot and stayed there. They needed a goalie and were lucky that Roloson pulled it together Sometimes these things are hard to figure. At one point people were criticizing Lowe when Edmonton went on a mini-slump and Roloson (who most people said, rightly, was just a journeyman) was terrible right after the trade.

Gainey's had two seasons where he could have made late season pickups. Once he went for it, once he didn't. Last time he went after Kovalev and the team got rolling in the playoffs, only to crash in the second round to the team that won the cup. This time I actually thought the Habs played better (Carolina was better than Boston in my opinion), but then Koivu went down and they were even weaker at centre. Sometimes you can't predict things.

If you notice, most of the late season pickups were wingers and goalies, with the odd defenseman. Most of the centres who were picked up were small finesse types...not what Montreal was looking for I'd say.

I'm neither here nor there on whether Gainey was right to stand pat.

I guess I just pose the question as this..where do the habs stand in relation to teams liek Anaheim and Edmonton?

I think we're not too far below them. Neither of those teams even made the playoffs last time around. Goes to show you that there's a lot of parity in the league, and that will be even more the case now that there's a cap.

So it's things like coaching, who's hot at a given moment, chemistry, hustle, the right mix, etc...that's going to make the difference. Honestly I still think Montreal's very close to that point.
