Redlight's thoughts on Theodore, The-open-Dore.

If Theo made it any farther, I would have begun to curse obscenities at the tv and drink excessively.  Many people on here wish Theo well, but why wish him well after he caused trouble in our dressing room, lost interest in the game of hockey, cost us points, cost us money, caused us fans stress and embarassment, and ultimately let us down in every way?

Do I want him to get hit by a bus?  No, of course not.  (A smaller vehicle would do just fine....  relax, it's a joke).  But as a die-hard Hab fan who cares not for the people who play for them but for the team itself (in the sense that my loyalties lie solely with the CH, and not the players who temporarily wear it), I would personally feel ripped off and cheated, and find it extremely unfair if Theo ends up living up to his Hart/Vezina potential elsewhere (ESPECIALLY Colorado, after the Roy debacle).  If he's capable of doing it at all, he should have done it for us, especially after all the chances we gave him.  When you buy a stock that tanks and loses you money, and then you sell it, do any of you sit and watch the ticker WISHING the stock will skyrocket and make other shareholders (the ppl that bought the once-expensive stock from u for 5 cents apiece) thousands of dollars, just because "hey, I was once related to that stock, and I wish it the best of luck".  If so, I admire the lot of you.

I'm glad he's eliminated from the playoffs, bluntly put.  Does anybody else feel this way, or have I just enraged a number of politically-correct people who feel I speak the words of Satan?

Believe it or not. I am with you. I want him to play alright... I don't like seeing anyone embarrassed, but I won't be happy/excited if he becomes a miracle worker.

I totally agree, 100%.  My wife and I discuss this all the time.  She feels it is spiteful of me to not wish him well.  Maybe next season I will cheer as hard when he gets scored on, but right now I still have that bitter taste in mouth.

Wait so do all of you hate every ex hab ??? LeClair 3 time 50 goal scorer after he left Montreal ? Zubrus ? Recchi ? I really don't get what you guys are saying. Do you wish him the best in Colorado, so why would you be happy that he is out ?

I personally don't hate all ex habs, there are a lot that I do though.  I used to love Recchi, bit can't stand him now, Tucker is on my hated list.  Leclair I am on the fence about, changes game by game, but if Kovalev left here and scored 70 goals in another city, I would hate him too.  My beef with Theo will be short lived, I really do like the guy, am just sour on what HE did to our team this year.  5.5 million could have be spent elsewhere.

Wish him well because of the hope he brought back to this team in 2001-2003, when we didn't have barely any talent on it. Least we forget what he did. I hope he wins a cup in colorado one day.

I think he has to learn how to win in the 2nd round before he can win a cup though.

Bitter taste or not, i do wish Theo well. And i also think it is unfair to say that theo PURPOSELY did what he "did" in montreal. With how the media and fans were literally ALL over him, it would be extremely hard to get up for a game. And there is no way you can prove or say he gave up. HE WAS trying as hard as he could. You could see it in the disappointment in his face. NO ONE likes to lose, especially while they are playing in montreal. Im positive there is nothing theo wanted more than to regain his form and role as a god in montreal. But sometimes things just dont work out in your favour....and theo is now in Denver.

You dont have to wish him a cup, but at least wish him well. You say we are classy fans. Id expect a classy person to do the classy thing, regardless the situation. Sure theo let in bad goals, was inconsistant at times adn fustrated many of us. But he also brought us to the play offs and 2 second round appearances, neither of which we deserved.

Wishing players well after they have departed from the Habs is a matter of who they are and what they exemplified throughout their career.

Reechi was a hab but I don't like him because he didn't want to play for the Habs and prefered to go to Philly (one of my most hated teams)

Leclair wanted to play for Montreal but was traded. I just didn't want him playing well because he was a Flyer but I liked him as a Hab. Now that he is a Penguin, I like him again.

Roy was and is still one of my favourite Habs.

Brisebois...I hope he does well because I think people never gave him a chance in Montreal. The constant booing probably affected his game alot. Low self-esteem causes self doubt that can linger for a long time. Even in Colorado, he may still be playing with some hesitation and doubt from the Montreal experience.

Theo is a non issue with me. I didn't really like him in Montreal but also never disliked him. I just thought he was overrated. So if he does well in Colorado then good for him because I like the Avalanche.

Now think about all those great Habs from the seventies dynasty that went on to play for other teams. I still loved those guys: Lafleur (Rangers, Nordiques), Shutt (LA Kings), Robinson (Kings), Savard (Jets)...

LaFleur, Le Gros Bill, The Rocket, The Boomer and actually too many from those eras to list were probably the classiest players to ever wear the Habs jerseys in my opinion. Never heard a complaint out of any of them and they all played their hearts out from a true love of the game instead of money. I truly believe that Free Agency is one of the worst things to ever happen to our sport because there is no more team loyalty...only a love of the almight dollar. Wearing the bleu, blanc et rouge IS an honor and a privilege and I sometimes think some of our players forget about that.

Now, as for players I miss I would definitely have to say that I miss Gilmour and LeClair the most. I know I am probably alone or damn close to it on this but I wish the Habs would bring LeClair back for his last couple years because I think his size could truly help our team. Gilmour is just plain classy and a hell of a leader...enough said. As I said in another post I think if we could find a player with Steve Begins heart and Ovechkins hands we would be sitting pretty come October.....

I would love to see big John back in Montreal. He is still a power forward who parks himself in front of the net, especially on powerplays. He still has potential of 20-25goals a season, which is big for us. I always liked him a lot. Great shot, great finisher, great puck posession, a leader, his size........

Guys I am kind of doubtful of his number he wore was it 17 or 27, I think 17.

I totally agree with you.  He no longer plays for the Habs, so good riddance. Thanks also for being the worst goalie ever this season and embarassing us night in and night out.  I think it is no coincidence that Lacroix stepped down after they got eliminated. The Avs have to carry Theo's 5+ million dollar contract next year after he failed to shine in the playoffs.  For everyone that thinks he had such a wonderful playoffs, other than game 5 (maybe game 4 too) in the Dallas series which he absolutely stole, he was an average goalie - which is what he has become.  Lets just all get over Theo and touting his virtues because I haven't seen anything good from him since the Boston series in 2004 (and he was garbage in the first couple games of that series). Dumping him was the best move Gainey has made since he took the reigns.

Score

Habs 1 (Theo dump) Avs 1 (Roy snatch)

But Theodore was the best player for the team. Sakic, Hejduk, Tanguay was ok, Brunette, Wolski, Blake was ok, Liles were all sleeping. And wait a second here man is Theodore 37 years old, is his career done ??? You talk as if it is, he is frickin 29 years old and somewhere soon he is going to win a cup with Colorado.

Habs and Avs...... i highly doubt Theo will ever win a cup, so I wouldn't expect it.  Perhaps you should add a 3rd team to your portfolio to increase your chances of a nearby cup victory.......

I'm sure Theo will play out his days in the NHL, but he will be an average goalie for the rest of them, as he has been for the past 2 years.

You need to trade in the rose coloured glasses, Avs Fan.  The Avs are a team in decline.  Blake has lost a step (or two) and Sakic is not guaranteed to be back (and is not getting any younger).  You just took on a nice $5,000,000+ contract, so you know one of your better players is going out the door. The Avs have had a great last 10 years and even grabbed a couple Cups, but the ride is coming to an end.  Lets see how many seats they sell in the Pepsi Centre when they are in 10th place in the West (not saying that is where they will finish next season, but it will happen eventually).

They have potential though still in Svatos, who could have maybe hit 40 or even 45 goals this year, Wolski, player of the year in the OHL, Liles, amazing defense, Brett Clark, amazing defense and Brad Richardson who has great potential.
I see them making a big trade and I think Blake has to leave since they are going to be in dept.

Definitely some good young guys there.  I agree that Blake will get the door.  I also think that one of Hejduk or Tanguay is also gone.  Tanguay is probably the better player - Hejduk had a brutal year.

If Blake and Tanguay are both getting the door, we should open it for both of them in Montreal!

Tanguay, in  particular, would look good in a Hab uniform.

Blake would bolster the d-line and make us that much meaner.  Tanguay is skilled but plays like a little girl.  I think we need some toughness, but I would pick him up for sure if we could get tougher at other positions.

Well The Great One always played like a panzy too so ya.... Tanguay is the kind of player that does not have to make the hard hit to get position, or be strong along the boards, he is way too talented for that. One of the best playmakers in the league for sure to go with his sick stickhandling skills. Ya Hejduk had a weak year, never found his touch like when he scored 50 goals. I think that the lost of Forsberg hurt him the most.

Wow I would love to see Tangs in a Montreal uniform if not back to Colorado's. And I bet it is his dream to play in Montreal.

Don't get me wrong, I like Tanguay and I think he can help the Habs BUT he isn't what they need.  They don't need another prancing playmaker who won't go into the corners.  They need some hard-nosed forwards with a blend of size and scoring.
