Why This Board is the BEST Board on the Web!!!
Permalink Closed

Funny, ... Since Mario opened this new board, the size of our gohabs family has grown at least 3 times its original size. I use to be able to name almost every member on the board....now i cant even keep track of how many posts are going by. What i love the most though, is how everyone here is family. We all share the same love for our team and are the most passionate fans out there. I've been to other boards and cannot stand them. They just dont measure up to what we have here. There is such a wide range of personalities here that it is impossible to not keep things interesting. Your pot stirrers in And-o, Forum Fan,- John M and Saku 11 and their fights for saku...Brooky providing the comedy and sometimes riské images that im sure most of us LOVE. Cleghorn, normie, Nil d, all bring great class to the table. Mrs Hab mothers this board and watches over with her rose coloured glasses. Habgirl keeps the bachelors busy and non bachelors wishing they were. Mc Girl keeps the board moving, i think she posts like 15 /day hahaha but in this offseason, we need people who can keep things going ( that photo album thing was a great idea by the way MC, Kudos to you ) Hockeyman, Barry, KeVin, Avs and Habs fan, plouf, and many others...(i can go on forever) never are done with providing us with great hockey insight. Im sorry MC GIRL, but your hubbys name just doesnt stick with me....ive named him Ripple. I believe his name is r2wpl3 or something like that...the spelling is close to Ripple...sorta...i like it...and it will stay wether he likes it or not haha, He doesnt come around much but his work is still a HUGE factor to this board ( hes taken over my pool, which by all means is fine with me. Im busy enough as it is!! haha) and still comes in every now and then just to let us know hes not dead. Our moderators in Habtastic and Zulrath. 2 guys who do the best they can to keep up with this board and keep it healthy, lord knows, it isnt the easiest job around ( Mario....ill be asking for a raise soon haha )  Spiderman NL, ALWAYS providing us with ALL the pre-game stats, hes our Gohabs.com Pre-Game Jacques Demers. And last but not least, we have the honor and privilage of having THE BEST Administrator on the web. I dont think there is a nicer, more down to earth, hard working guy out there than Mario. The guy works his ASS off for this board and without him, none of this would be possible. And to think, this is just a HOBBY of his. HE does it on his spare time! Wow... If there was an award out there like Internet Awards or soemthing...i would definately have Mario nominated and ENSURE he wins it! Mario, you have no idea how much i, along with everyone here enjoy this site and how much we apprieciate all your hard work. Im glad to say im a part of the best Site on the Web! GO HABS GO!!!!

That just about sums it all up...we're here for life...I've been thinking about something you said the other day, about making the ultimate Gohabs reunion...getting as many of us as possible to get together. In Montreal, goes without saying. I think it can be done, though it would take a lot of time and planning.  Maybe even as far ahead as ths Canadiens centenary celebration in 2009. I know I'd do my best to make  it...

You are absolutely right, Johab...this is the best board with all its ups and downs and different opinions.  Bottom line is we are all Hab fans, just have different opinions and ways of expressing them.  We are a great extended Hab family.

I join you in expressing my thanks to Mario who has made this board possible.

Thanks for the honourable mention....

Johab, are you sure you're still only 18?!  Well, yes I have met you, so I guess I know, but your maturity astounds me.

Keep it up, Big Guy.  You're gonna go far...........

Since I started reading this forum I thought that's what it sounded like. That is until I told you of mine & my hubby's bet... (BTW Thanks for proving me wrong ) Joe-hab is much better... johab..gohab's.... it works.

But now, it's hard to wrap my head around it, because I thought that's what it was for so long.

I have the the same problem with Nil d's name. And it will NEVER change. His name is SUPPOSE to be pronounced Nil Dee. but i have combined it into just Nild. I like the name...sounds weird...but its original.

Same goes for Ripple and also Cleghorn. I will rarely call him Cleghorn...normally its Clegger. At least i say your name right... its Em-Sea Girl not Mcgirl like McDonalds right?

My prayers go out to him and his family. I cant imagine what its like to lose a mother and i dont want to either ( i've been raised by a single mom my whole life ) So i know that if i were to lose her, it would be devistating. Hope he is strong and gets through this tough time in his young life.

You got it Kevin...my prayers for the little boy.  Even if it looks like he taking it in stride....I highly doubt it.  He is hurting big time and denial is the first defense.  I will put in an extra word for him tonight.

How about this? When the Habs win the Cup! (2008 sez Muller).

I'm sort of with And-o on the whole "let's keep the identities in the imagination" thing. But when the Habs win it all...who #@#% cares!!! Time for a reunion!!!

JOHAB, that was really thoughtful and nice to say about me, and oh yeah thanks for noticing.  HA HA HA.  Just kidding.   I must say, you certainly don't act your age.  For an 18 yr old you are years ahead of the game.

I've been fortunate to be running the site this long (10+ years).  And why do i keep doing it?  Well passion for one.  But I must say, interacting with fans be in over the net or in the few cases when I meet them in person, just drives me to continue.  The positive feedback I've received from so many far outweigh the very few negative forces,

I must say this past season was extremely challenging with all the projects I undertook, and I have so many projects left for the summer, that it will keep me busy during the off season.  It also helps that I have an understanding boss who respects my "hobby" and knows it  does not interfere with work.  I wish I could say I have a 9-5 job, but I don't.  Yes it's an office job but there are times I'm at work passed 8pm at night, or go into work on weekends sometimes both Saturdays & Sundays.  And yet, I maintain GOHABS.com without interuption.  LOL.

I hope we do have a mega GOHABS.com reunion.  But remember, if ever in Montreal, drop me a line, and if given enough prior notice, I will make plans to meet you.

Oh yeah Mrshab, and those on the west coast.  I'll be checking the schedule when it comes out in June/July as I want to visit Vancouver this year and I would like to catch the Habs play the Canucks (I've accumulated over 180,000 Aeroplan points it's about time I start using them LOL).  So I might be going out west.   I've travelled to quite a few places in my 36 years that it's a shame that I haven't visited much of Canada.  Kanata is the furthest west I've been in Canada (to catch the Sens).  Pretty sad.

GO HABS GO!

Thx Johab I wanna thank Mario also for this board. I have not been here that long but I like it a lot, I value everyone's posts. There is a lot of members here who know their hockey. And I like to get feedback to see where my opinion stands among you guys. Best habs board for sure!

Well, it may be weird, but it's hardly original.  It's simply my first name and first letter of my last one (yes, in lower case - " d' " means "de" or "from").  (You'd be John G, but I think we have one of those already (Jonny G?).

Nil is the Acadian version of Neil (which many people here in Halifax call me).  I've seen the name a couple of times in Quebec, but never in NB, although I know about 8 others with that name here in the NS Acadian regions.   I've heard all the jokes, but they don't bother me.

The was another Nil d'Entremont who died in Moncton last year (he was from the same place as me, and was a CBC executive; maybe Figaro knew of him?); several people thought it was me.  A friend asked me if I received many calls on it; my reply: "If they thought I was dead, why would they call me?"

There was yet another Nil d'Entremont who died last year (also from my home town), and another guy reminded me that "things usually come in threes".  Nice guy!

Hey Mario:

Unfortunately, the Habs won't be back this way until 2008/2009 because of the new scheduling format.  The Northeast division visited here this past season.

However, you should still come out to visit if you get the chance.  I'm sure you would like it here and it would be a great pleasure to thank you in person.  I'm sure we could get the west coast posters (MrsHab, Habgirl, etc...) together for a mini reunion.

Thanks a bunch and keep up the great work.

I lost my mother at 11 and it is a life altering event. I can imagine how difficult it is for you... as his teacher. More than 20 years after my mother's death I left Toronto and I went to work for an organization back in my hometown. One of the Board members came up to me early on and said - "You lost your mother when you were young didn't you?" I wondered how he knew - he'd been on a student teacher placement when it had happened - I was both moved and blown away by the realization of how it had it could impact other people to such a degree that it could be a point of reference 20 plus years later!

Two hockey related references - 1) she passed away in October of 1967 and a business associate of my father's was a friend of Leaf Allan Stanley - he brought me a hockey stick signed by all of the Leaf Stanley Cup team - for some reason I used the stick to play hockey broke it and threw it away - I feel bad to this day for the disregard I showed to his thoughtful present - (on the upside I've always felt that breaking that stick is the root of the Leaf cup curse) and 2) I wrote to Jean Beliveau that year and he kindly wrote me back. I met Jean at a radio telethon im Montreal for Enfants de Retour (ChildFind my French translation is likely incorrect) in 1986 or 87 - I told him this story and he said "Oh my goodness, I hope that I wrote you back!" What a kind man.

it wasnt fun on saturday at all... but in all honesty, there was no where else i wanted to be then there.  he never noticed me during the procession, but his eyes light up when he saw me afterwards... that showed me that no matter how i feel, as a teacher, we have a deep effect on our students - positively and negatively, and that i shouldnt take that for granted.

what i did was take up a fund for him. he has a ps2, so the class all chipped in $2.00, some more, some less, and i am picking him up a gift certificate from eb games.  hopefully this will help alleviate some pressure and give him an out whenever he needs it.  i would like to say i came up with the idea, but i didnt... classes idea :)

KeVin - sounds like you and the class offered alot of support - I expect Mother's Day will be hard for him for a long time.

If you are connected to the father at all, it might be wise to look at the availability of grief counselling in your community - people tend to avoid talking to kids about loss/death - when that's really what they need to do.

Good luck with this.

i found that to be true as well actually    after the accident with my family on may long weekend 5 years ago   almost everyone avoided the topic as much as possible with me   not sure how they were with my younger brother though (edgar who is also on this board and who was there and the only survivor)  so i (and maybe my brother) know what its like to be goin through it with out someone to talk to   luckily we had each other  and my girlfriend at the time.  death is a very difficult thing to go through especially when its someone in your family     in any case  my prayers are with that child and his family

Salted One - so sorry.  I had no idea.

I hope the May long weekend isn't something that you dread...
