Redlight- First you would have to give Kovalev a map to find the the defensive zone. It would be considered foreign territory requiring Kovalev to show his passport to enter the area. Give me a break, great year-thats a laugh-- 24 goals wow, for a guy that plays every powerplay, maybe we should re-acquire Tucker who had more goals and has a semblance of a heart at least.
Bottomline - trade him

Kovy missed 13 games and wasn't fully playing at 100% I believe during the end of the season......... He had 65pts in 69gp, I think that is what's expected of him.

I don't know about that. I think more is expected of an elite player like Kovalev, points-wise. In a year when scoring went up something crazy like 25%, Kovalev should get more than a point a game.

Here are some random guys who scored more than him:
Martin Straka, Cory Stillman, Justin Williams, Andy McDonald, Vinny Prospal, Daniel and Henrik Sedin, Michael Nylander.

These guys are all decent offensive players. But none of them should get more points than a fully-firing Kovalev.

I hope he stays, but I expect more consistent production next year from a guy who's supposed to a dominant power forward.

Am I arguing with a person who just credited Tucker with having heart?  I think I'm in over my head here.   I guess it shows your level of hockey knowledge, though.

I mirror that opinion to the fullest.  Some people on this site are always drooling about Kovy and someone actually had the sheer balls to say he was the best forward in the league (I wish I saved that one).  If he is that good, why doesn't he produce?  Simple question.

Um Plouf ? Do you know the definition of a power forward. Kovy is not one, when has he ever driven to the net lmfao....... And you guys as long as you agree that despite being injured, playing with NOBODY he was still the best player for us in the playoffs. He had what 7pts. in 6gp ? And all of those players you named up there Plouf play with great players : Jagr, Staal, Selanne........ Once AGAIN who does KOVY play WITH , please tell me.

And who does Crosby and Ovechkin playing with them, they make their own opportunities and capitalize on them.

Rookies always play with more heart though. They have something to prove. (not that a player should ever stop playing hard)

Judge Crosby & Ovechkin over the next two years to make a concrete assessment of their abilities. (BTW~ I think Ovechkin is amazing & Crosby is a bit of a primadona) Remember, Theo had a booming year too (although not his rookie year), then never played the same again.

Could just be beginner's luck.... which is what I think is happening with Ward.

Also, IMHO judging by Crosby's attitude on the bench & on ice, he'll definitely get too big for his britches & his game may suffer because of it.

A power forward is a big, strong go-to guy in the offensive zone. He can be a guy who goes to the net, or not, as the case may be. I don't think there's a dictionary definition of it.

Bottom line is Kovalev played with better forwards than a lot of players who way out produced him (Ovechkin and Crosby were good enough examples for sure). The other thing is that this has been the case for much of Kovalev's career. Not like he hasn't played with some pretty good linemates on stacked teams in the past. For some reason he just has never brought his A game on a consistent basis. I'm not saying get rid of him. He just leaves me wanting more is all.

We would have to be crazy to get rid of Kovy. He is the purest goal scorer on the team. Ryder is getting there but i guarantee you when Ryders career is done Kovalev will have better numbers. This guy is amazing with the puck. The thing is when he played with the Penguins he played with 2 of the greatest players to ever play the game. I love Ribeiro, Plekanec, Zednik, and Perezhogin (players who played with Kovy) but they are no Lemeiux or Jagr. Obviously he will have better numbers playing in Pittsburg. This guy deserves every penny he is getting. Guys we should trade are Bonk, Aebischer, Sundstrom, Simpson maybe even Huet because who knows he might be a one hit wonder.
