Well, well, and...well. Listening to the post series interviews with both Gainey and Kovalev, it appears that the honeymoon is over. First of all, Kovalev was NOT, I repeat NOT injured. When he only played sparingly in game 4 and 5 it was NOT because he was hurt..he was benched and being sent a message by BG. Gainey had called him out if you may recall as one of the players who had to be better.
When asked last night if he was hurt and that was the reason that he was not playing as much Kovy's words were "I would not go out there if I was hurt and could not contribute. I played later in the game so obviously I was not hurt. Gainey has his opinion and is entitled to it. If that is what he thinks about me I cannot help that"- The Team 990

Well, the Habs are off to a great start... aren't they? Talk about starting that off season on a bitter note. Does anyone think we should trade Kovalev...the return could be very juicy? I personally would never want that to happen but Gainey has gone back to a GM role now, which doesn't fair well for Kovy.
In fairness, Gainey did say after that he did not say that Kovalev was not playing well..he simply said that he felt that Kovalev could "bring more" (not really sure what the difference is Bob).

Did anyone notice that with the multiple of botched calls against us and the Koivu thing, Gainey didn't bitch at a refs once. It was a mistake not too. You want your players to show passion and the person who's role is too motivate, doesn't even frown. That was strange even for me.
My dream would be to shop Kovy and Ribs together to a lower ranked team for their first pick and a prospect. Only if the pick was low enough to get Derrick Brassard

We need a coach who is somewhere in between "Mr. Dead" and "Mr. Loudmouth". There is a fine line between mouthing all the time and getting your players off track, or being TOO quiet and having your players unmotivated and listless. I believe that Gainey is too quiet and complacent and we coudl have used a ra ra guy. To me, Jaques Demers had an excellant bench manner. He got excited now and then but he kept the team calm and cool too. Demers., they say, was the ultimate players' coach and I have tried to model myself after him

i think they should trade him now before they have a 36 yr old 23-25 goalscorer who makes 4.5 million
Could not have said it better myself. I like Kovalev...what a talent...but he just does not seem right to me. Can't put a finger on it but hmmm.
Perhaps if he had an actual center besides puff boy, he may settle in better( although he was the habs leading scorer).
I say, go buy an actual center and give Kovalev one more year...he needs 40 goals/ 90 points to satisfy me. And he needs to score some big time goals in the playoffs( i.e last night 1-1 would have been a good time to earn the big bucks). And he needs to assist the habs getting to at least the final 4...! this will happen...mark my words.
The Habs believe in "Victory with Honour" and I'm with them - I'd rather they'd lose than emulate the behaviour of some Canes. You don't want a rep as a ref baiter or a diver or a turtler - things rarely if ever seen from our Club. Kovalev - bye bye - the guy was the lone joke in last night's line-up - his teammates will have noticed.
I agree with everything you just said, the Canes played disgustingly, diving, whining, careless and crossing the line with Huet. I know some people want he Canes to win because then we would have lost to the best usually thats okay but with the Canes i hope they bet swept they don't desreve to win (besides a few) And i won't mention my thoughts on Kovalev because they have been quite clear throughout the season.
I agree that Gainey should have shown some emotion, I'm not a big fan of complaining to refs, but when they blow multiple calls, you really need to let them know just so you're in their head for the next call.
I really like Kovalev, he is the class of the league when he wants to play. My problem is that I have zero time for a player who turns it on only when he feels like it...game 6 of a playoff series is probably a good time to turn it on Kovy. I like the guy a lot, but I'd get over it if they traded him for a power forward with a good work ethic.
As we saw this team is in dire need of a goalscorer. Go out and get another one. This way the pressure isn't on one guy to carry the team offensively. Would you rather keep Bulis who seems to work hard all the time????? C'mon wake up guys!! With Koivu out the Canes knew who they had to shut down. Give Kovy world class players to evolve wirh.
