The first year ever that that the Montreal Canadiens get eliminated and I don't need any time to mourn. Not many people gave them a chance before the series began and it's been a radical ride....I felt every emotion possible...pleasure, anger, disappointment, confusion, pride, you name it.
There isn't much that I can hold against any player or coach. No one really to point the finger at. The Habs showed the hockey nation that this series could of went either way. Most importantly, they showed their fans and themselves. This series can only have a positive impact on the team.
I would even go out on the limb and say that the Habs had the edge but just couldn't score. 5 out of the 6 games were won by a 1 goal differential. Like I said, it could of went either way.
Where do we go from here? We can only go one way, which is up. We finally have a group of young players that we've had the pleasure of watching and some that we haven't even seen yet. I've seen players like Zednik, Ribs, Dandy, Bouillon, and Kovalev show signs of passion and heart that I really did not expect.
What's more important is I'm seeing more and more people get attached to this team. I actually have friends who never liked the Habs, coming around and realizing what type of organization this is. ALL I KNOW IS THAT IF THE MONTREAL CANADIENS' ADMINISTRATION THINK THAT THERE IS A HIGH EXPECTATION FOR THE CLUB, IT WILL NOT COMPARE TO NEXT SEASON. THE NEXT TWO SEASONS MUST DEVELOP A CONTENDING TEAM. There really are no more excuses now. Everyone thought that NJ and Buffalo were in a rebuilding stage but their rebuilding stage was the off-season.
I just want to point out that it's not only talent that wins you Stanley Cups. You need some talent but look at teams like NJ, Buffalo aaian, who have their 2 or 3 talented players and the rest are just quick, tireless, hard-working players. On the other hand, look at Detroit...filled with talent but not enough of those hard working role players.
Building a team is certainly not easy but due to this season and this board, I'm one step closer to understanding how teams could be built....therefore, my passion for hockey has grown ten-fold.
Cheers to a great sport called hockey and to our team, the Habs!...and of course, you all!

Well, I'm glad you added that last little piece! Good post, Limer.
Key Lime, Excellent post my friend and I agree on all points! I'm so proud of our team and look toward the future! I wanted the future to be now, but hey, we were the last original six team to survive the first round...so that's something
Key Lime- BG has said all along that he has a "5 year plan". Get er done Bob. I too am proud of these guys and the effort. W efell short in many areas but in the end it was the things that plagued us all season that bit us in the buttocks area. Lack of scoring and finish and spotty effort. I am tired of the "Wait til next year" song because we are startingto sound like Leafs fans..but..waut til next year!! lol

Same here Barry, you have no idea how tired I am of the next year thing also. Like I said, the Habs must become a contender by next season and should be a top team in 2 years time. Is that a tall order to fill? No...other teams have done it and the Habs have no more excuses. The Montreal Canadiens, a solid organization with a mediocre team...just doesn't jive for me anymore. I have faith that it can change...

The proof is in the puddin' as they say. The puddin' still needs quite a few ingredients to be palatable right now.

Well, we have a whole summer to discuss those ingredients...Question, do minor league coaches, like yourself, still work hard in the off-season to prepare for next year?

Actually Key I pretty much take the summer off from coaching. I coach bantam aged kids so in reality all I can do is show up in the fall and see who comes to try out and then make my cuts. I do help out teaching at a hockey school one week and will go to a coaching Symposium in PEI in August (which is in essence a one day seminar and 2 days of the Captain and golf).
