I'm not going to point fingers at the loss. It sucks and was a terrible end to a gritty season. This series proved 2 things. We have a serious glaring hole in the scoring department AND we cannot win without our leader. So, until the fre agent market opens (or the trade season comes around) I think we need to take a break from Habs talk. Well, I am at least.

Forget it. Cant help myself. Who do you think will be back, who will be gone and who should we bring in?

Let's go for Huet, trade Abby's rights, lose Ribs.

My prediction is Aebi goes to Tampa. John Grahame obviously won't go back there, and Aebischer doesn't have a particularly large contract. They'll probably consider a UFA, Evgeni Nabokov or David Aebischer, and I'd be willing to bet they just might swing a deal to get Aebi from us. This is all assuming we can sign Huet, that is.

You lasted a whopping 7 minutes.

I'd also give up on Ribs. The upside isn't worth it. He's too small and slow for this league. Screw Abby and ride out Huet until you can find another solid netminder. Try to pick up a big centreman, which the Habs have been missing for years now.

Sheesh, Figaro, you just broke your own record for the fastest comeback!

But stop doing that, please; you're starting to sound like the boy who cried wolf.

But to your question: I'd keep Huet for sure, trade Aebischer and promote Danis.   Lose Ribeiro, unless he follows my prescribed off-season fitness regime (eat hamburgers to add 20 pounds, and lift weights until he can successfully armwrestle one of the Bell Centre's female attendants and his shot can pierce a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper).  Lose Sundstrom, Downey, and maybe Perezhogin.  Keep Koivu, Kovalev, Ryder, Higgins, Markov, Komisarek, Souray (but have him learn defense) and Bouillon.  Trade any of the rest only if we get in return a stud defenseman and/or big centreman.

Might be a bit early for this, but why not...

Gone: Simpson, Sundstrom, Ribs, Zednik, Abby (Danis is ready), Maybe Bulis if Latendresse or Kostitsyn is ready.

Arnott is the player that we most need, but many teams want him and he will cost a mint. Hopefully Gainey can use their past relationship to convince him.

I think we could package Abby, Zednik, Ribs and maybe a pick and/or prospect and bring in a top-winger.

We need another puck-moving D to pair with Souray, so maybe a Kubina, because I think most of the top guys will be re-signed be their teams. I think Bouillon/Rivet would make an excellent pairing and a top PK unit. Dandenault can be the extra D or play R-wing with Bonk/Begin since he used to be a forward.

I think they will keep Bonk until Chipchura is ready to replace him.

I think Downey will stay if the rules allow us to have 2 extra forwards.

I see 75% of the team staying together and the extra room for 2-3 free-agents/trades and 1-2 spots for rookies. I think Murray has at least earned the extra-forward spot if not a winger position with Bonk/Begin or Pleks/Perez.

Or alternatively............trade the entire team for Sidney Crosby and promote the entire Hamilton team (minus one, to make the math work), and go from there.

Good post! Although, I still like Zed. How much does he make and when is his contract done? Is he hurting us in that financial aspect?
