Justin Williams high stick accidental?
Permalink Closed

got this from another board, very interesting

"Just read a story in Canoe.com (French)
The day following Koivu's injury, George and Rose Gillett went for dinner in a downtown Montreal restaurant. They were told that maybe it wasn't a good idea to eat there because some Carolina Hurricanes players were having dinner next to their table. Mr Gillett said he had no problem's with that and they went in. They shaked hands with everybody except for one player (Justin Williams) He never looked at Gillett in his eyes and didn't shake his hand. Mr. Gillett thought that his reaction was very strange for a player who said that the incident was accidental. How could he be trying to lift Saku's stick when it wasn't even there. ******* Williams, we all know your a hacker."

here's the story (it's french btw)

Sorry, I don't buy that at all. I refuse to beleive that there's even one player in the league that would intentionally go for another players eye, that and it's a pretty small target.

Justin Williams may be a lot of things, but even he wouldn't do this. Beleive half of what you hear and 1% of what you get from the media!

This is what Gilett said about Williams (in French; presumably Gillett said it in English):

«Il ne m'a pas regardé dans les yeux, raconte Gillett. J'ai trouvé sa conduite étrange. S'il croit vraiment qu'il s'agit d'un accident, pourquoi a-t-il réagi de cette façon? C'est clair qu'il n'a pas voulu blesser Koivu. C'est aussi très clair, en visionnant le film de l'accident, que Williams était trop loin de Saku pour prétendre qu'il tentait de soulever son bâton.»

Translated: "He did not look me in the eye.  I found he acted strangely.  If he really feels it was an accident, why did he react that way?  It's clear he did not intend to hurt Koivu.  It's also obvious, watching replays of the incident, that Williams was too far away to pretend to be trying to lift his stick."

Im sorry but that entire article is hype. There is no way Williams INTENTIONALLY high sticked Koivu in the face. Yes, the highstick was kinda late for williams to try and lift his stick...WHICH IS WHY HE GOT SAKUS FACE. Not because he intended to hit his face.

take what you will from the article, i myself don't believe it was intentional, but it sure is a strange way to act after something like that.
