Pre game rituals and superstitions
Permalink Closed

Players, especially goalies, often have a ton of pre game rituals and superstitions. Almost every game I've played as a goalie since the mid 70's as a kid, when I got dressed it was always left sock first, left skate first, left pad first, never varied from that. When I roughed up the ice in the crease and during the game, I NEVER put snow into the net. When I was scored on, I always took a little snow out of the net with my stick. And for positioning during the game, I always nailed the nearest goalpost with either the blade of my stick and glove or the shaft of my stick.

As a fan, I only use superstition in playoffs. This year it's been lucky shirt & shorts, and when the going gets tough, lucky dog at my side Although they've all failed me last two games and I may find a new one

Anybody else have any superstitions? Or am I the lone goalie flake on the board

I'll have one on tonight - it's the greatest white t-shirt - on the front is the front of one of those 1960s Montreal table hockey men (you remember the guys look like Troy Donahue) and the back of the t-shirt is the back of the hockey man.

I'm pulling out all the stops!!

Cripes Brookie if you'd put Shatner's head there you'd almost have it!! The player is wearing the home colours and instead of the "CH", the word "MONTREAL" is written across the jersey - but defintely the guy is more Shatner than Donohue.

I'm pulling out the big guns tonight and changing rituals. I'll be wearing the same Habs T-Shirt I wore in the Montreal Forum when the boys beat NY Islanders in triple overtime in the 1993 playoffs!

I usually go into the bedroom and put one of my Jerseys on and coming running out to the song ' Eye of the tiger' by Survivor, but I'm going to change the song for this game to 'Turn up the Radio' by Autograph just to get charged up for the game.
