Gainey should start with the refs during the game.....neither he nor Carbo showed any emotion about Saku's non-call.......they should have been going bananas. Neither of these refs should ref again this year.

Please someone tell me Gainey went bananas at the press conference. He needs to put the pressure on the NHL to do something about this unnecesssary situation. Why was there no conference among the officials and the linesmen when the guy goes off with blood coming from his eye??? These jerks couldn't drop the puck fast enough. Why was a four minute penalty called on Komi when Stillman showed NO sign of an injury?? As a mattter of fact Stillman played 2 minutes of that powerplay!!!!! If the supervising officials do their jobs, these clowns are done.

I was thinking the same thing. I like calmness in general, but the refs had to be told that Gainey was not pleased. Surely a blast from Gainey once every three years should have more effect on the refs than the constant carping from, say, the "cry wolf" blabbermouth who just got fired in Toronto.

You are correct in that those refs should be benched for the season (I've always hated Morealle as much as he hates the Habs), whining to the refs in the game never works out, just ask Pat Quinn

Gainey should probably make a call to the NHL tomorrow and file a formal complaint though. Still, I've said it before, every player and coach knows that you have to rise above bad refs from time to time.

Usually I'd say Gainey's calmness with refs is a plus. Doesn't pay to embarass the ref, especially early in the game. But by the end of this one he should have been screaming. As Nil d pointed out, when you have a good rep with the refs, a screaming meltdown tends to be doubly effective.

On the other hand, the Habs need to keep their composure for this next game. Gainey will be an example.

What if Gainey screams and yells and takes a bench minor that loses us the game earlier? Then we would be blaming Gainey and not the refs. I am sure he spoke to them after the game. But let's hope we don't have those refs again. Hopefully Bettman makes a statement about it, but I doubt it.
