Boy has Matts Sundin been on fire or what? It may be too little too late but I can tell you, the Leafs Captain has taken the bull by the horns and is leading the way by example. 4 goals last night including the OT winner. Habs need one guy to do that in the playoffs...just step up and say "ok boys follow me". Who will it be? Koivu? Kovalev? Ryder? Maybe a darkhorse like Begin or Bonk. But to have success in the playoffs as a team, you need one guy to step up and clear a path. Here's hoping someone in a habs jersey will do that.

He's been doing that for the last 5 or 6 games from what I've seen, you're right, too little too late but you gotta admire his refuse to quit attitude! Who knows, Tampa's looking like they never want to win another game...
Not sure Barry, I don't think we can have one player do it for us. The playoffs are where the best team wins. The only guy who can steal games for you is your goalie. I understand you need players to step up and the key to winning is the guys who usually show up can't be the only guys to step it up come playoff time.
There has to be darkhorse players who you don't expect much from coming through at crunch time.

Was going to say just about the same thing. Iwould add that there is a reason Sundin has to carry that "team." Because no one else can. They've got some good young talent but they have mostly old cancers that need to be nuked right off the team. In the end, I think Sundin is playing hard hoping he can get another team to spare him from the Maple Lodge.
Remember our last time in the post season? All of our big guns stepped it up. Hopefully they do the same this season. If Kovy gets as hot as he did against Boston 2 years ago, no one will stop the Habs. Plus Higgins is already going, and Koviu is playing his best hockey of the year. Even Streit has looked impressive. Also big Komy is going to step up and be our feared, bone jarring, defenseman in the dance this year. Man I can't wait.
Not trying to take away from his triumphs, however, all but one goal was on the PP yesterday.
I was at last nights game and he was more than a power play weapon. I think the Leafs had 50 shots or more by the end. McLennan was outstanding. Sundin has been carrying this team all season.

I understand he played well.... but the point I was making is 5 of their 6 goals were on the powerplay. Do you not see the amount of powerplays they get every single game they play? Heck, they had a streak going this year where they scored only on the PP for __???__ consecutive games. We could have 50 shots on goal too if we got as many as they seem to get.
I watched last night, and while I agree Sundin was good, it seemed every time the Laffs were down, they got a power play on a questionable call. How is it that a team who is so slow and old gets so many penalties taken on them? Oh yeah I forgot, blue and white & black and white against the other team. Thank god they have as good of a chance of making the play offs as I do scoring 70 goals for the Habs next year. (although I think I could do it)
Actually he hasn't. Early on it was McCabe, Tucker, Lindros and Allison. There were rumours of trading Sundin about 2 or 3 months ago. He has only recently picked it up the past month or so.

oh I agree John for the most part..this habs team is a team that gets contributions from anyone on a given night. I am still hopeful that w ehave one or 2 guys who will step it up a notch and just dominate when they need to. Even though Sundin is a Leaf I will not take away from what he has done for that team, not only in the last month but his whole career. Never once did I hear him whine about the team or his linemates. For us to sit and say "ya well all his goals were on the PP" is simply taking away from what he did. If it was Koivu or Kovalev we would not be saying that at all.

Good post Barry. Also, Sundin is a solid leader and player. I'd take him any day over Kovy or Saks.

As I said in another post, the Laffs scored all 5 goals against Philly Sat night on the PP. They had 8 PPs which gives them 17 for the last 2 games. I guess its easy to see why they score plenty of PP goals!! No other team seems to get as many PPs as Tor.

Glad you see it too Murphy. Others on here have the same damn blinders on that the rest of the NHL org has.
Someone should count how many PP's the Leafs have had this season. I betcha you can add up any two teams & their combined totals won't even come close to the Leafs PP's.
PPPLLLEEEAAAASSSSSEEEE!!!!
& Sundin might be "holding his own" as of late.... but 4 months ago, even his fans were turning on him.
