my take on the game last night

i watched the game against nj last night and felt that the habs just weren't in it, they played sloppy, bad passing and shot when they should have passed, passed , when they should haved shot! no one is to blame for the loss, they were due to have one of these games. i hope they can get back on track and start winning again. to be a habs fan, you have to take the good with the bad!

I hate to say it, but I could not disagree more, Newf.  Read my "On the plus side" post for my take on the game.  I thought the Habs played a very good game and were robbed by first star Martin Brodeur, who stopped 40 of 42 shots, many of the quality variety.

I think they played well with some mental lapses.   They were pressing and looking for that picture perfect hightlight reel goal especially in the 1st period with a 5-on-3 advantage,  when they didn't score, they let themselves beat themselves.

Now I have a problem with New Jersey's 3rd goal.   Ever since Coach Gainey took over the reins he tried to instill everyone to move the puck forward.   Can someone explain to me what the heck was Higgins thinking of when from the neutral zone he passed the puck back to Streit at their defensive blue line , and Streit, who was NOT anticipating a pass???

I wish I could have attended this game live (with media pass) because I would have asked Higgins on this.

Higgins, to his credit, did redeem himself scoring in the final minute.  But it was too late by then.

i guess we will disagree on how well the habs played last night, i didn't think they played well  at all, but that's my opinion and i respect yours, to win a game, you have to play 60 minutes of hockey. these mental lapses cost the habs the game. broduer played great hockey, no denying that, but he could've been beaten if the habs played good hockey. chalk it up to the habs due for a sub-par game.

I really think you all hit the points - Brodeur won this game for NJ and we lost it by not being able to beat him on 5-3.  Looks like they are trying to hard to get the perfect pass for the open side.  Let's see some blasts.  And, let's try not to give the puck to Gomez anymore.  Think we can all agree on that.

Bad game? I don't think you can all it that... they were robbed by a tight checking team with a one-of-a-kind goalie... They still outshot them 42-29... and controlled they a good part of the game... They were lacking finish and I think the "streak" got to them. Good effort for the most part, i wouldn't call it "one of those games" because I don't think NJ could get away with that type of game in a 7 game series. Only good results can come from 40+ shots a night.

I thought the effort was there... just a few bad bounces and of course that horrible give-away in the third.. I also think they were a little tight which may have caused the bad bounces.Let's hope they can put this one behind them and get a couple of wins in the final games remaining.

They still looked pretty good even in losingwhich is a far cry from what we were seeing earlier in the season.
