The Habs played a very good game last night.  The shots were 42-29, which was not deceiving.  They had more shots and more scoring chances, and generally had the edge in play.  The diference, of course, was Brodeur.  Koivu, Kovalev, Ryder, Perezhogin - several of them were robbed on numerous chances.


So let's chalk that one up to a superstar goalie who is always pumped when he goes to his home town, with his father taking pictures from behind the net.


As for the Habs, except for a couple of down moments (Streit's giveaway, and the entire team watching when Gomez blew by all of them), they played very well.  All four lines put pressure on the Devils.  Huet was not spectacular, but was very solid.  He had no chance on the first two goals, and the last one was a great deke (on a breakaway that never should have happened).


Begin's loss will hurt - let's hope it's not serious (Sainte Lorette, please!).  So now Zednik (presumably) goes back in the lineup with somethng to prove, and the rest of the team is in good shape and playing well.


So it was a loss, but not the end of the world.  We've won eight of our last nine!  Go Habs!

Marty is one of a kind... two goals against him in Montreal is like 6 against anyone else. Why the fates had him play his whole career for that unloved, uninteresting team is beyond me. Oh, well...

And remember trends, not individual games matter, and the trend still points north for us, so GHG!!!

i thought that the habs had a let down game last night and could have won the game if they played better, but in saying that, the habs were due a let down game.

Good posts guys.


I missed almost the whole game, but I do think the shots total and the robberies by Brodeur do add up to a pretty good effort by the team on the whole. New Jersey's been playing well and both teams wanted it, and it sounds like we were in it all the way. We've stolen a couple of games with Huet, so maybe we shouldn't be too surprised to have it happen to us once in a while.


But our next games are against tough teams, so let's hope the Habs still have it in 'em.

New Jersey is a machine and the Rangers found that out tonight. I have a lot of respect for that organization, but I really hope we can take them next time and get over the Brodeur/Mental hurdle.

I was at the game last night, and I can honestly tell you it was Brodeur. He made some huge saves. The real turning point was the failure to convert on that 5 on 3 for 2 minutes. Sure, we could have used a better effort from guys like Perezhogin who didn't do too much, but other than the Mark Streit giveaway, the team was pretty solid, as was Huet.

So hey, we can't win 'em all; let's just stay positive and go for the next game!

Well done.


You know, I saw Rita MacNeil in concert only once, long before she was famous (it was in 1984, I believe), at the  Middle Deck pub in Halifax.  I remember the room being full of - shall we say - plus-size women.  I think they were her groupies back then.  Some of them were groups unto themselves. 


In that venue, she was wickedly entertaining.  Her early songs were folkish, peppy, and very cleverly written.  Once she got famous and started writing middle-of-the-road pap, I lost all interest in her.


But I did bump into her  outside the Halifax Metro Centre about five years ago and we had a brief chat.  She's a pip, I tell ya.............
