Eastern Conference Goalies
Permalink Closed

The only proven goalie in the Eastern Conference playoffs is Marty Brodeur.

Every other goalie is unproven in the post season (Huet, Lundqvist, Niitimayki/Esche, Burke/Grahame, Gerber, Emery (Hasek is toast), & Miller.

The door is WIDE open in the Conference, considering goaltending is the most important position.  If Huet just continues to do what he's done in all of his 33 starts and we get Zednik to get on his horse, this could be an interesting and LONG spring......................................

Huge game in Ottawa tonight - and Montreal should be the favourite.  No Hasek and Ottawa is missing their top 3 d-men.

Saw the same thing on TSN this morning. Marty IS the devils right now. As for favorites tonight, things never work for us in favorites. Ottawa did however play last night and MIGHT be tired. We know the D will be Mezaros and phillips both played 35+ minutes!!!

Marty's an iron man, he's been playing the majority of games for years, tired shouldn't be a factor.  The reason he may be looking more beatable this year is because with 1905 shots he's on target to face the most shots of his entire career.

I'd call Esche (19 playoff Games) & Burke (35 playoff games) somewhat proven playoff goaltenders.

I would call them both crap.  Neither of those guys can take a team to the finals.

Idiot Clarke tries to get Philly through the playoffs every year with a sub-par goalie.  He loads his team up with forwards and then puts a junk goalie in net....EVERY SINGLE YEAR.  I don't even know why the guy still has a job?

Now I didn't say they were proven cup winners.  I should have said "playoff experienced" goalies

I was thinking the same thing this morning. I hated him in the 70's, and wonder how he shows up to work every day.

I think the laurels dents in his ass are beginning to get wider than the gap in his teeth...

Hmmm, I wonder if Dave Shultz is available?

I just don't get how they can keep Clarke in power over there?  He has had, arguably some of the best teams in the last 10 years but no goalie.  He has never even tried to land a huge free agent goalie, even with the huge $$$ that Philly used to have to spend.  What does he do this year?  Hatcher, Forsberg....and another garbage goalie.  Couldn't stand Clarke as a player and even more so as a GM.

What a waste of talent that system has been! All the players you wish we has (and once did) hobbled by a lack of GM vision. A guy like Richter in his prime would have seen at least 3 cups to Philly in the last decade or so...

Can you imagine if the Habs tried to pull that sh*t?  They would be all over the GM. We haven't had the luxury of having the teams that Philly has had, but even we know better than to enter the playoffs with a pretender between the pipes.

It would be like admitting that the only reason they won those cups was Bernie Parent.

Which it was! Only likeable guy on the team.

You're right, he was one of the best goalies I've ever seen, I was a huge fan of Bernie's in those days.

If i remember right there were postings all over this board about how terrible Gainey was,as a GM & coach, well thank (someone )we don't have a Bobby clarke. But what about Mike Milbury: they fired him as a coach,GM,....and gave him a bigger job up in the penthouse, talk about your dumb a**es,real funny, they must terrifed of that guy.

Maybe he'll end up back with the Bruins and keep them out of the playoffs year after year!

I keep feeling like Gainey is reminding me of a "Favour" I've forgotten to repay!

Don't forget he had Hextall for a while.  Hextall was pretty good for a couple of those years.  But since then, it's almost as if he's saying "See, I tried with a decent goalie (Hextall) and it didn't work.  So now I'm going to try something else."

I'm not saying Hextall was the best, but with the teams that were in front of him, there should have been more success.

Hey Mr. Guru!  Four posts away from the big "Plouf 1K".

Always great to read your posts (and I never miss one).
