Oh ya ...... Hmm I dunno about this ..... I really like abby, hope he can get us the win. I hope this is not simply because Huet allowed 3 goals cause that would be ludacris..

BG is simply giving Huet a rest. He had suggested -- before the Boston game -- that Aebi would start against O-town.

I know he needs a rest, however I wouls start him against the Sens for the first game. If Abby loses big time it will do nothing for the Momentum and confidence of the team. If  Huet starts and plays very well it would be better. I just hate to see Abby doing his usual shuffle and we lose big time. I want a win against the Sens to set the stage for the final 7   Just my thoughts

The only game that I would definitely rest Huet is against Buffalo. They play Boston the following night. Too many points up for grabs.

Bulis is back out??? I guess that BG didn't like the bone-headed penalty that Bulis took in the offensive zone.

I have to agree with you here. It's a great coaching strategy. If Abby has a poor game, we already expect it of him, we just go back with Huet and keep on rolling. But if he turns out to win this game for us, not only does it give us the win, but it gives Abby some confidence.

I agree that Huet needs a rest, we need him for the playoffs and it would be bad coaching to burn him out.

how is it in anyway a bad decision to rest huet, and not burn himout for the rest of the year??  gainey is making a smart coaching move in giving abby a chance against a beaten up ottawa team.  if we lose and it is abby's fault then the team will have to get over it and move on.  if he plays good and we win or lose a close one, then it will only give the team more confidence to know we have two goalies that are capable of beating the sens!

i would rather lose a few down the stretch and have a healthy huet for the playoffs then play him every game and have him injured or completely worn out whe we need him most.

You need to rest Huet. Gainey went and Got Abby because he felt that he could be a backup. What happens if Huet gets hurt and Abby has not played at all., what position would they be in? Abby needs to play. Period.

I agree -I thought he was there just to say to the refs."YES" we have another goalie suited up on the bench. I mean he let in 15 goals in 3 games, ----and put him in against OTTAWA!!!! .I would say that it will show and tell everybody including and most importantly (ABBY) that you are a terrible goalie(ABBY),now go sit on the end of the bench until we send you down to the minors. Now you tell me that bob Gainey isn't a smart dude.lol

why does he need a rest , he played 1 game in 4 days , played sat rest sun- mon- played tues, rest weds. play thurs, rest fri play sat , if he needs a rest now we better not have a long playoff run where we would be playing every second night for 2 months . between mar 20-25 he played 4 games but now after playing 1 game in 4 nights he needs a rest , im not buying it , this is an important game and we shouldnt be going with our backup . bob once againg makes me go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.i need an emoticon where im scratching my head , anyone got 1 , it will be well used trying to keep up with bob.

Huet has never been a high game goalie in his career from what I've seen. Last time they played Aebisher, Huet had let in a couple of softies the night before if I remember correctly (as he did last night). That could be the sign of a tired goalie. Someone else made the point that if Huet got hurt, Aebischer would be ice cold from riding the pines. We can afford one Aebisher start...let's hope he plays better!

just a thought    but huet  isn't gonna get much of a rest if abby is pulled    which  against the sens    it seems pretty likely to me     so huet rests one or two periods?    sounds reasonable...   unless abby plays well    ...   it could happen

Personally I would feel ALOT more comfy going into the playoffs with 2 goalies who could at least stop a puck because you never know what can happen. So let us all pray that Abby has a good game tonite.

Whoa there bud....... So Abby is garbage to you. Last game he was solid, damn don't you guys see whenever Abby's in it's a different team playing in front of him, like The Colombus Blue Jackets, they play with NO D at all, while they give Huet better games........ Stop being a typical fan plz. But they shouldn't rest Huet tonight, I'd rather put him in and give Abby that start in Boston, why risk a loss tonight ???

Maybe And-o is being to harsh on Abby...???

...it would be nice to get both Abby and Huet rolling for the 'offs!!!

Plus, And-o has a hunch that Ottawa won't show-up for real tonight...just to make certain that the window gets slammed shut on the Leafs for good!!!

"CONFIDENCE" ---a feeling of trust in a person,---that is probably why they don't play well in front of him,no "CONFIDENCE" in him,in the nets,--and "SOLID" he played solid the last game 5 goals, and the one Roy scored hooooly smokes he fanned on the shot  haha, and still scored man oh man hope HUET doesn't get hurt if were depending on this guy

I was debating this issue with a friend. Huet looked a little tired against Boston. Now that we're in the home stretch, we need Huet to be fresh -- especially vs. Jersey on Saturday night. It would be terrible if Huet got shallacked tonight and had to bounce back for Jersey x 2, Buffalo x 2, Ottawa, and Boston. Let him recharge. Also, sit him vs. Buffalo next week when the Habs play Boston 24 hrs later (or before -- can't recall).

Another good point about letting Huet rest against Ottawa is, Ottawa knows very little about playing against Huet...why give them a free read when we may be playing them in the first round

Guess gainey believes this is a toss up game for the 2pts.  I'm scratching like macneil...why would you not start him against the Isles or Boston...hmmmmm. well I still believe it would have been better to start Aeby at home rather than on the road.Aeby will have to stand on his head tonight and Gainey actually believes he can.  What's Aeby's Record against Ottawa if he has played them before? Goodluck Aeb's

Johab, I am afraid we'll have to score more than 6.  I hope he proves me wrong, but I have zero confidence in Abby.

Here's hoping the team doesn't feel the same way or stick a fork in us 'cause we're done.

at the moment, im with you ....0 confidence in abby. Sorry guys, but he has shown me NOTHING that would give me a reason to have confidence in him. EVEN while he was in Colorado.

What do you think now though? He's got good reflexes anyway. Technique could use some help, but he's focused tonight.

After two, 35 saves on 37 shots.  Feeling any better about the guy?

(The jury's still out for me - he's stopping them, but looks shakey.  Plus two posts have helped.  Still, lookin' good so far.............)

Tonight we saw the Aebischer I remember from Colorado. He was not spectacular, but he was good. Out of position at times, but will make the big saves. And he had a good team in front of him to score more goals than he let in... just like Colorado!

So I don't think we'll see anything better from him than tonight on a regular basis.

...He ended the game with a whopin' 47 shots.

Call it luck but you gotta be pretty good to only let 3 in. I think he is a solid goalie actually. Maybe not top notch but I figure he and Huet give the habs some of the most consistent goaltending in the league.

I liked how he looked tonight

Hated the sportsnet pro Ottawa announcers though...good lord they were annoying. Kept harping on how beleagured the Ottawa defense was etc. Okay, Okay...say it once or twice but I figure they mentioned it 15 times!! Also spoke about all the "unlucky" bounces against Ottawa, Geesh!
