I have read the terms of conduct and believe I understand the intent , however I think the matter of censorship has gone a little overboard , what should be censored becomes very subjective and will utimately be stifle spontaneity and discourse
the personal biases of the moderators will be and have already been a factor in determining what can be said ....recently comments containing latent missives about ' natives " went unchallenged ...and when someone made a quip about the posting style of one of the moderators the post was immediately squashed .....I much prefer the dust-ups between And-o and whomever to the boring and mundane posts on adolescent academia .....welcome to Mayberry folks

IMHO, what we as members need to remember, is that it is Mario's $ that puts this board up. It is his property, it isn't public property. It is at Mario's sole discretion who can post here, who is a moderator and what is acceptable. At the risk of being a smart ass, he could decide that any posts containing the letter 'x' will be deleted. I notice that Brooklyn isn't back, I notice that Ando/AB don't have the same arguements with JohnM/Muller (Alot of people posted that they were tired of the tennis match of "yes he is" "no he isn't", and yet we all read every single one of them). In the grand scheme of things, we have to take Mario's rules or leave the site. And I hope that people don't leave.

Just imagine how And-o feels!!! He can't ever recall posting something here on GOHABS.COM that would actually qualify under that "code of conduct"!!!
...and as for these "latent missives" about "natives", And-o is having serious reservations!!!
And-o thinks Mario should adopt "sand-box" style rules for GOHABS.COM. They are simple...ultimately fair...unwritten...and surprisingly straight forward!
I somewhat agree with you And-o. 100% though on the unwritten part. Unwritten rules for some reason are MUCH easier to follow as it is a mutual understanding with everyone rather than a set of rules that are demanded to be followed. I personally would much rather see people just get along, while being able to have the occasional battles between each other while at the same time respecting each other. Lord knows that i enjoyed your and Forum Fans arguements, along with Saku 11 and John M. They are very entertaining. But a line must be drawn somewhere to stop it from getting out of hand, like it did not so long ago. Why people cant understand this, or take it upon themselves to be mature and responsible is beyond me. It REALLY isnt THIS hard! Is it worth it to lose members over the board for this %^*&?! NO!!!

Hey 'Forum Fan'...all kidd'in aside...how long do you think it will take And-o...or JohnM...or Clegger...or YOU...to flush the "Mayberry Senior Citizens Ringette" rules down the crapper the first time something controversial happens in 'Habdom'???
...I've posted it here before...and I'll post it again now...MODERATORS BE DAMNED! Unless someone is using profanity...or is being a real nutbar (a la Habarounie)...HANDS OFF THE POSTS!
What we have to keep in mind is that this board is still new and is going through some major growing pains. All boards like this do this when you introduce a moderator system. The best solution is to leave the posts be, only close them if a personal attack goes on for an extended period of time. Then warn all parties involved. etc.

Could this board be getting edgier soon? Sometimes implementing certain rules that need not be there in the first place gives some people the incentive to break them. An issue I have with the new rules is the deleting of harmless posts. If posts are falling off the first page too quickly, perhaps a new section with different posting topics needs to be implemented. Gohabs is growing and the creation of such page is innevitable under this system of posting to make the board more accessible and easier for users.

I'm pretty much in total agreement with this philosophy. Count me on the "only censor us when it's utter madness" petition. The bickering is at least 50% of the fun, and the bickering's going to create the odd wacko post. I'm a little worried about the code myself.

Ando, I do agree with your comments, but I also think any public forum should have posted guidelines, if for nothing else to protect the forum owner from liability if some looney tune really goes off the deep end, I've seen it. I've seen serious death threats over a public forum, it ain't pretty. That being said, a hockey team forum is going to contain passionate people and I don't think that should be completely stifled...after all, fan is just short for fanatic
Moderating is atough and most times thankless job. Unfortunately not all moderators are created equal. Perhaps, dare I say there may be a need for a moderators code of conduct. When you have multiple moderators, if you're not all on the same page and some have quicker trigger fingers than others...well that can wreck a bord just as fast as a crazy loose cannon can. Just my 2 cents.
The key to remember is that what seems common sense to you might be a foreign idea to another. Who would have thought that sending threatning and profane private messages to another member was a bad thing. We might not all take it that far, but you'd be surprised at what some people think is acceptable...what some think is their right. Mario does have the right to uphold a value-based board with guidelines in order to protect his investment and reputation, heck, even attract sponsorships/advertising.
I will say that anything I've closed or deleted was either because of profane content, double posting, hojacking or, what I felt, flaming (intent to cause strong negative reaction.) I'm not talking about a Leaf fan saying the Habs suck or someone saying that your favourite player has the potential of a minor league fighter. In no way have I intended to censor or prevent anyone from making their message. I can promise you that Johab and Mario are on the same page. You might not always agree with a closure/deletion, but please understand that it is in good faith.
To address why some posts are deleted while others not - if there is a post that you find offensive, please let us know. We cannot catch every post. So don't read futher into it than that.
I agree with Kendich in that I support the idea of multiple "room" posting.

Seriously, threatening another member is NEVER a good idea. Add to that the member being a stranger & a female and sending threats to her is nothing short of complete idiocy...please don't attempt defend that. While I agree with your first line "The key to remember is that what seems common sense to you might be a foreign idea to another", in fact that's the key to being an understanding human being IMHO, defending someone like beleafer after the comments he made to MCGirl can only serve to make you look bad.
