A Sign That Gainey's Patience Did Pay Off
Permalink Closed

When Gainey picked up Bonk, he visualized the Bonk that we see today. Yes, it took a hell of a long time to get him going but with patience that none of us will ever have, we see why Bonk can be valuable to the team. Bonk seems to take much more space on the ice, he uses his size now, he's excellent defensively and is finall getting scoring chances, and above all, he's confident.

If Bonk continues on the same path, he'll have a key role for us in the playoffs. Does he merit his salary? If he continues this kind of play until the end of the regular season and for the balance of the playoffs, he'll almost deserve his pay.

I must admit that I was one of the Bonk Bashers, but lately he's been turnin it on. What is his contract status at seasons end?

Bonk's contract carries him through to the end of '06-'07.

i too was a huge bonk basher, considering i liked Garon so much. BUT with how things have turned out. I barely miss Garon at all. Only in the depth categorie. Cuz we ALL know how i feel about Johnny 5

What choice did Gainey have but to be patient? The guy had a 2 year contract eating up the cap and the way he was playing, he was virtually untradeable. Pretty tough to do anything but play him and pray that he starts doing something that remotely resembles a hockey player so you can either trade him, or justify trading away a very good goalie.
