Have to admit Bulis is a better player - think of the scoring punch he could add to the Bonk and Begin

I don't get it.

So you believe that Bulis is better than the leading brand of fabric softener?

Ya keep Murray in and sit Downey, I don't think Downey is half the player Bulis is cause Bulis can be agressive and physical too.

I am not familiar with the "aggressive and physical" Bulis. Really the whole notion of comparing Downey and Bulis is an apples and oranges debate. The players are not remotely similar on a skill level or what their respective roles are for the club. Earlier in the season without Downey and Murray in the lineup the Canadiens were being pushed around. the Habs were one of the smallest teams in the league, and one of the softest teams. Despite limited skills, Downey and Murray bring a toughness, and create more open space for the teams more talented players. Look at the team's won loss record when both of these players are in the lineup versus when they are not.

Bulis should be in the lineup, but not replacing Downey or Murray, they are delivering in the roles that are expected of them. Bulis should be given consideration over Zednik,Riberio,Perezhogin these guys are not delivering in their roles, and Bulis style would better replace those players.

It really isn't an apples and oranges comparison, as the arguement is 'What will give the team the best chance to win?'  Since the Habs got Downey for nothing, he is certainly worth every penny.  It seems to me that the only one on that line that is throwing their weight around is Begin.  Bonk is REALLY showing up defensively, and Bonk and Begin are creating scoring chances.  Downey isn't contributing at all.  IMHO

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I believe that Downey adds an element of necessary toughness to the team. Bonk's play has improved since he bagan playing alongside Begin and Downey. Bonk is driving to the net more frequently and becoming less of a perimeter player and I think that is in part due to knowing that Downey has his back. Do not think Bonk's revitalized play would have occured if he had another smurf forward playing alongside him.

Should Bulis be in the lineup? Certainly, but at the expense of a less physical player, of which the Canadiens have an abundance of.

See, this is where the "purpose" and "team needs" comes into play. comapring Downey to Bulis is not even worth the effort. We have a good number of Bulis types on this team. We needed toughness to allow our smaller forwards to play bigger.

However...I would insert Bulis over Ribby. But again, I trust Gainey so Ribby is in there for a reason I figure.

AB...it seems like if it were up to you, you would have four lines of scorers and zero toughness. I bet you would trade Koivu for Savard( Atl) one up... wouldn't you???

Buiding a team is like a puzzle..you need the right pieces( that's why Muarry for Hossa was brilliant). Some on here thought Hossa was too talented for what we got...but Hossa will never win a cup...he is too soft...even if he eventually sores 20-25. I would rather have 10 goals form Murray and all the other things he brings any day.

I have to ask, what toughness does Downey bring?  Two fights in 19 games?  You can say that he gets involved in the pushing after a whistle, but I've seen Ribeiro do that too.  Is Ribeiro a tough guy?  I completely agree that every team needs its tough guys, but Downey isn't holding up his end of the deal.  He is supposed to be the Habs' enforcer, and yet there's Begin being the one to sacrifice his body at every opportunity.  The Habs are stuck with their roster, they can't add a bona fide tough guy now, and that is why I would prefer Bulis over Downey.  IMHO

Heet, this is why I agree with you! Downey has maybe 15 points in his whole career and Bulis can do whatever Downey can but way better especially if Downey doesn't drop his gloves.

Muller went off on a tangent but I do agree with a balance of grinder or tough player per line. With Begin on that line, Bulis would fit in great as a player that can do it all plus score the odd goal or set one up.

Also, Bulis is a way better skater, open ice checker/hitter, better defensively and can shoot the puck!

Thus answering the opening thread, I take Bulis over Downer any day!

Just having him around is enough to send the right message. Hmmm in tussle with ribby versus Downey? It's one thing to "get involved" but something else to have the potential goods to go with it...
