Good-luck trying to peg a fair-value for signing Huet!

What other comparator is there in the NHL for re-signing Huet???

Is there one?

The guy has won two-thirds of his starts.  He owns the best save percentage in the entire league.  He has six shut-outs so far!!!  He has almost single-handedly carried the entire franchise into a playoff position.

...oh yeah, he presently makes a mind-numbing $452K/yr (vs. $6 million for Belfour).

How much is this guy worth?!?!?  What is the ceiling here?

And-o could argue that Huet is worth as much as any other Hab!  Realistically though...and this is just purely a blind stab at it...would a 2 yr deal for $6-$8 million be fair???  Too much?

Bottomline...this 'throw-in' stands to be a multi-millionaire come July 1st, 2006!!!

If Gainey is smart, he'd try to sign him to the "Marc-Andre Fleury" deal, an acceptable base salary with bonus incentives. Remember he may have had a really good season, but it was only half a season as a starter for the first time.

Excellent question! I'm not sure how much he's worth in money but invaluable in a Habs net. He's a must sign. Get her done Gainey!

I love that kind of deal, wouldn't it be great if every player was signed to that kind of a deal. The all get a base salary then they work up from there. No More Steals like Stall but no more wasted money like Theo and Daigle was.

The problem with that kind of deal is that the player starts going for individual stats and loses team focus. it is fine for a goalie, because their position is mostly individual. I would agree a Fleury-type deal would be good, but if it is a straght deal then I would say 3 years at 7-9 million. As mentioned, he has only played half-a-season after all.

I also like the idea of a Fleury type deal. Huet has been great, but isn't proven over the long haul. I'd like to see at least two solid seasons from a goalie before laying out the big bucks. And as much of a Theo supporter that I was, I can't help but think the big bucks too soon had something to do with his problems...I'd sure hate to see that happen again.

You could make diffrent kind of incentives for diffrent types of players. YOu can add an extra assist instead of only making two and fights could also be an incentive.

IMO he will get anywhere from 2 - 2.5 mill per season on a two year deal.  A little bit more than the 1.9 that Aebischer is getting now after his good first season in Colorado

Was hoping for something a little more exciting for the 500th, but I had to weigh in on this one.

I agree with you, I think he will get 2 years at about 2 for year one and 2.5 for year 2.  Kiprusoff makes 2.9 this season so that is also a good barometer.
