"I don't care," Kovalev said when asked if he was concerned about a possible suspension. "If they don't suspend him and they suspend me, that's being ridiculous. They didn't call him, that means they let them do whatever they want. Are we just going to watch and wait until we get hurt? I'm not going to let that go. I mean, he tried to hurt me. He had a good chance and he barely touched me, and I didn't let go of my chance."
Canadiens coach and GM Bob Gainey supported Kovalev's actions.
"I think the best person to protect anybody is they protect themselves and I think that's message that he sent, 'Don't mess with me or I'll take care of myself,' and I think that's not a bad message to send," Gainey said.
Maple Leafs general manager John Ferguson Jr. expected the league will review the play, though Tucker doesn't expect anything to come of it.
"It's the game of hockey," Tucker said. "He's playing hard for his team, I'm playing hard for my team, and things like that are going to happen."
kovalev did the right thing by standing up for himself, if he didn't, we would be upset with him , he did what a lot of players wanted to do, not just on the habs team . a tear of joy was spilled when i saw the hit!

It's like watching your baby girl take her first steps..... never been prouder of the man!!!
As another fan on GoHabs so perfectly put it.... Here comes the Kovalev express! Toot Toot. (Train sounds... not you know what!!! lol)
I know i loved the hit and IT WAS CLEAN...it was forearm NOT elbow, and the call the refs made was BULL. Im sorry but Tucker was lining up on Kovalev, and kovalev being the bigger player and also more momentum steamrolled tucker. Its obvious when you look at the replay. Players like Kovalev when they have the puck are not looking to hit people, it was an instict thing, you see your going to get hit, you put your arm up, and fortunately tucker got the worst of it.
Great to see the team stick up for each other and i LOVED Gainey's quote before the game. "If toronto wants to play a physical and dirty game, we are ready for them, and we will be able to match them "
...With Downey, Murray, Simpson, Souray, Rivet, Begin, and our recent goon Ribeiro around, we are a much bigger team, and our star players dont have to worry about being picked on. Way to go boys!

Still a penalty though Johab. But I agree nothing serious - Tucker more or less jumped Kovalev and had been cheap-shotting all game, hopefully no suspension.
As much as I hate Tucker it shows some class on his part that he didn't whine about the hit, because it was nothing more than a 2 minute penalty.
