Yet another Shootout bash

Previously when i had bashed shootouts one of the responses i got was some overtimes are not exciting. I think this is because shootout teams like Dallas don't want them to be, they would rather play defensive because they know there steller in shootouts (11 Wins). Atlanta is the same thing the have won 6. While montreal has only had three because they go all out in OT and its exciting. IF there were no shootouts preceding the OT, OT would be much more exciting.

I say just play ot until there is a winner and dump shootout business

Apparently, the shootout was put in place to grow market. "Fans" love it. In the near future we'll probably 3 on 3 before a shootout and no points awarded for OT/Shoot Out losses. That will make real fans proud. How the stadings would be different if it weren't for OT.

I will repeat myself:
should be 3 pts for win, 2 pts for OT or shootout win, 1 pt. for OT or shootout loss, 0 pts for regulation loss.

Keep the the OT, keep shootout...but ZERO points for ANY loss. The shootout as well as OT was put in to eliminate ties, super, now eliminate the 1 point associated with the tie. 2 points for a win, 0 points for a loss.

That would also be fine by me.

What I hate is the incentive to go for the minimum one point late in a tied game. Two teams that tie get 3 points between them, while a clear decision is worth 2 points? Garbage.

Yep, the current rules reward you for playing in a defensive shell for the 3rd period...play to win!
