I've ranted about this pro-Toronto clown once before, but this morning took the cake.
On Nationally televised games, a reporter is allowed to stand between the teams two benchs and file mid-game reports. Pierre Maguire does a great job of this on NBC Saturday afternoons. On locally broadcast games, if a reporter wants to stand between the two benchs and report on the game, they need permission from both teams.
Obviously Pat Quinn (who coached Healy for 4-5 years in Toronto), granted Healy permission to stand between the benches. However, given the importance of the game, and the relationship Healy has with the Leafs' Bob Gainey said no.
Healy now angry as hell about this because he had to stand in the Zamboni entrance wanted "revenge" against Gainey, which led him to the bit on Chris Higgins' illegal heel shave of his stick that was aired on the broadcast. On the FAN 590 this morning hear in Toronto he was gloating about this, and also revealed a couple of other Montreal players', including Kovalev who use illegal sticks.
I'm sure every player in the NHL knows what players use illegal sticks, it's not an earth shattering discovery that Healy made. And to sell out a guy like Kovalev (everybody knows he, Jagr, Kovalchuk, Ovechkin all use illegal sticks) who Healy won a Stanley Cup with in '94, is just a low class, baby, punk-ass move.
If anybody sees him walking around town today, or at the game on Saturday, be sure to give this clown an earful.
Several things from last nights broadcast were irritating.
Still calling the program "Molson Leafs Hockey" for example. If you broadcast in the GTA only, against an American team go for it. But a national broadcast against a Canadian rival is disrespectfull.
I did like the fact that the Toronto leaning broadcasters got there predictions blow to hell. Not one gave the Habs a shot. Sadly this includes Jacques Demers on OTR with Landsberg.
Harry Neal is only getting worse, time for the retirement home.
At least that Homer play by play guy Joe Bowen didn't get the chance to go absolutely insane for any of the goals. Good to see the Habs make sure he had nothing to go raw-raw over. If you have ever listened to him in a close big game its extremely bad.
Glen Healy was an idiot during the lockout and that was when I really started to dislike his work. Harry is not so bad away from Leafs games and Bob Cole. But, we do live in Leaf Nation (barf)...
Healy is the worst commentator in the game today. Completely biased and not afraid to let it out of the bag. I've HATED this guy since the Flames' play-off run - they would be up in the series or the game and all he would talk about was how good Detroit or San Jose was while they were losing. He totally hates the Habs and is not afraid to let that shine through.

I heard 4 or 5 years ago directly from an NHL player that following a trade Healy was very comfortable giving his new teammates very personal and sometimes hurtful information the private lives of his former teammates.
Absolutely ZERO in the class department. I don't mind Neale sometimes, and Cole's good. I prefer to listen to games broadcast on RDS than listen to Healy. He makes me angry whether the Habs are up or down.
I would suggest he's the second worst announcer behind Greg Millen, though it's a close call.
I also loved his commentary immediately following Pez' goal when, instead of actually commenting on the MTL goal, he points out a 'questionable' handling of the puck by Huet !??
even pierre before the game was bashing the habs, though not as direct as healy......as soon as the habs were up 4-0 his story changed right around
he went from giving them no chance in hell, to saying how great they looked and how hungry they were.....makes you sick listening to a broadcast like that where it should be unbiased and equal to the whole country.
how about nick kipreos.....that guy is the worst guy on t.v.....i understand he played for the leafs but he is the reason i stopped watching sportsnet, all he does is bash the habs!
Kipreos is a total meathead. The only reason he has a job is because he played for the Laffs. I wouldn't be so hard on Pierre though, he has a soft spot for the Habs. He's probably just as frustrated with them as all of us .

Why are there so many ex-goalies (and mostly mediocre ones) on TV, I wonder? Of the top of my head, I can think of Kelly Hrudey, Glenn Healey, Greg Millen, John Davidson, Darren Pang, Jim Ralph. I'm sure there are a few more.
Most goalies are flakes - sorry Johab & Barry- you'd have to be to play that position, or it would make you that way, eventually. But many end up on TV.
Maybe the question contains its own reply..............

I was wondering what would be said today ! , Healey and Harry neale were the absolute worst last nite ......so obviously biased .....I can't believe it I'm lost for words .................
Goalies become analysts because that is what they are doing all the time; analyzing the game. You gots ta' do somethin' while standing in your crease...
Funny how im a goalie and i am working towards a broadcasting job when im older. HAbtastic had a really good point. Goalies are constantly analysing what is going on in front of them, so play as a goalie long enough and you naturally analyse a lot of stuff without even noticing it.

I'm the player-coach for our men's league team and our goalie is always the best at analyzing the game. In his position he has a unique perspective that isn't available to the forwards and defence.

Habtastic
What I don't understand though is why so many of them are lame announcers, because you'd think they'd be the best analysts. (Greg Millen!? Kelly Hrudey?! Glen Healy?!) Johab, you have to go out there and redeem that bunch. [Davidson's ok though]
On TSN they just had "2 Minutes for Instigating" and one of the topics was Huet and some of the people considering him the best goalie in the world right now. Healey said "no way, you aren't the best goalie in the world and just hold on to your playoff hopes". Although I think saying Huet is the best in the world is a bit of an overstatement, Huet wasn't in nets for most of our huge slump this season.

I just saw it too!
Why do TSN give this clown a forum? he must have some private dish on TSN executives?

I also played goal for 30+ years (still hoping for a comeback ) and I totally agree that you get a perspective no other player does. While that does make many many good students of the game, to be an on air personality is something entirely differnent. I actually like Hrudey as an analyst, ya he's corny and sometimes wanders, but come on, he's worked with Ron McLean the king of cornball. Millen's ok, but pretty boring, and yes, Healy is a goof and a punk and I'd like to add, a complete stooge. I'm just so happy I was in the Forum in 1993 when Healy lost that triple overtime game (that may be the basis of his hatred for the habs )

Although he delivered some praise, he made some obnoxious comments. For example, after Huet had let in that screen shot, Healey said that Huet's negotiating position just weakened. Yeah right, as though one soft goal for the league leading goaltender is gonna have serious ramifications in contract talks.
I feel compelled to say that I watched the 2nd and 3rd periods on TSN (and not RDS) because my wife doesn't understand French.

Healy was bearable last night. He had a ton of good things to say about most of the Habs. Of course, he and Cuthbert* continue to talk about everything but the game from the second priod on.
* I mean Chris not Elisha.

The only reason why Healy wasn't bashing the Habs last night is because he has to eat crow over
(1) his predictions
(2) the shallacking the laffs took
(3) his general distaste for the habs and how they continue to prove him wrong
(4) the TSN executives just realized that laff fans won't be watching hockey games or sportscentre or any hockey specialty show, so they need appease habs fans by muzzeling healey in order to get some viewers, because THERE WILL BE NO MOLSON CANADIAN LEAFS HOCKEY IN 2 WEEKS
what do you expect from a second rate back up goalie? At least Mcquire will admit when he's wrong and (rightfully) avoids topics he knows little about. Glenn Healy IS a punk.
