Perhaps Figaro's trigger finger was a bit itchy, And-o, but he was sanctioned as a moderator by Mario (and kindly agreed to do so), so by asking for his removal you are indirectly criticising Mario (which I'm sure was not your intent).

Calling for Figaro's head is not the answer - unless you are prepared to jump in and volunteer yourself. The best thing would be for Mario to clearly outline the rules, and for the rest of us to stay within these boundaries.

If nothing else, we'll get Brook back (not Mountain).

I can't join in the chorus to remove Figaro simply because I don't know myself what he has done or not done in his role. I will say, though, that I believe that there is and should be a difference between mediation and censorship. A mediator facilitates the process of communication between two interested parties. A censor prevents interested parties from reading or hearing things that they want to read or hear.

Personally, being a blue-blooded libertarian, I don't believe in censorship in any form, no matter what the topic. But this is not my board and it's not my sweat that's created it. If someone in authority has decided that censorship and editing need to exist on gohabs.com, it's not my place to complain about it. I can see where things like personal threats or "offensive" language could ruin the board. But the instances of those things happening have seemed to be very few to me.

I would urge Mario, Figaro and Johab to exercise as much restraint as possible in the editing of posts, closing of threads, etc. and to give the members of the board as much freedom as possible. If someone consistently shows himself to be an anus, we all have the freedom to ignore that person's posts. But that's a choice that I feel is always best left in the hands of the audience. Isn't it?

I don't really know any of the politics around this site, but as long as the poster doesn't take personal stabs at anyone or can do it in a constructive manner I don't mind a little
"mixing it up" here and there. Freedom of speech and all that jazz... It would be nice to see in written form what the criteria is for something that is deemed "unacceptable" by the powers that be.

I've been a moderator on a board before, it takes some work getting used to so don't blame Figs, I, like many others suggested, agree on having a simple ruleset to follow so we all know where we stand.

I would think it's pretty straight-forward. If one has a problem with a post, by all means address it. However, personal attacks are probably not the greatest idea. Also, kids visit this board (I know my daughter does), so anything profane (although she's more potty-mouthed than her mom) should be off-limits.

I think that for the most part this board is pretty clean. It gets heated at times, but maybe we all just need to walk away from our screens and taking a deep breath before using the trigger finger.

I know I have taken posts to task in the past. I hope I haven't offended anyone along the way. If I have, apologies.

Now, let's all be friends!

I've been certain to keep any posts i delete or edit as simple as possible. If i think something may be offensive, i will not bring it up infront of everyone on the board. I send a private message to that person, explaining what may be thought of as offensive by some or inappropriate. I know i have talked to a couple of you and each time i recieved a great response and never had any problems. One person has been banned because the guy was just out of control and had nothing but hot air if he felt like someone disagreed with him. No one will miss him, he was a member for about 2 weeks and posted a grand total of 4 times. SO im positive many of you dont even know he exists.

If i have done anything that has upset someone here, please let me know so i can be a better moderator. I took the job because i want to help keep marios site fun and clean. That doesnt mean im going to edit every word that isnt PG rated but that does mean i will step in if i feel something is being taken too far. Yes,every person has their right to say what they like, but i mean this is a hockey board, not the Supreme Court. Its posters views and opinions, not lives or rights of citizens we are argueing about. Things shouldnt be this complicated, and hopefully it is all cleared up soon.

Only thing is can be hard to define what a direct insult is. Between some of the posters, direct insults are perfectly fine, because we know it's in fun, or the people know each other. How are you going to make the distinction? And won't there be a danger of jumping the gun and misreading an exchange of insults that's actually all in fun? Sometimes it's best for people to forgive and make up etc... rather than impose rules from the outside.

Hey I totally know you have to have some rules to avoid crazies, but....

Main point being, the verbal jousting is the best part, so please don't make it too "correct" , ok?

There are 118 pages of posts. Call it bad math but 2 deleted posts is hardly censorship. I've had to close more fraudulent ticket sales than foul language posts.

And it's moderator, not mediator.
