This guy is turning into quite a goal scorer. Reminds me of when Tocchet played with Mario. A skilled centermen can make a grinding winger look like a scorer. The Sharks won that trade. Thornton is an elete player.

I was looking at his stats and thinking the same thing.  I also thought, why don't we have anyone like this in Montreal?  What would it take to get us one?  Imagine if we'd trade Theo before he went from Hart to fart?  We could easily have gotten two or three 1st rounders or that scorer we've needed for so long and more.  Anyway, my vent, sorry to hijack your thread.

Isn't Cheechoo a native Canadian? The last time he played in Montreal, he had several family members in the crowd.

Native Canadian yeah, but I thought he was from Northern Ontario. I remember HNIC doing a kind of spotlight thing on him a couple years ago.

Actually Fig, I remember one of my very first posts, which was a few years ago, Oct. I remember mentioning that we should trade Theo for Iginla(back then that was the rumour as Flames needed goaltending and our history of not having a number one center for a long time) Iginla and Theo had come off of great seasons and their value were egual. For myself, I always thought of Theo as being inconsistent and over-rated. Needless to say, that post didn't go over well. AB was blasted by this board's members especially FF.

Ironic how things change over time. Imagine if that trade would of happened? Wow!

Anyways to get back on topic, a great center will make a marginal winger look pretty special. Goalies like Theo are easier to come by as the league is full of average goalies.

AB - I'm sure most people blated you for that trade.  Personally (and I might be wrong) I'd think I'd have be okay either way.  Maybe leaning a little on the Theo side then.  But, what might have been, eh?  Always seems like we either miss a "what might have been" trade or get totally taken to the woodshed.  Yikes.  But, at least we made a good return for Malakov.

 Good point Fig!

Just to keep things in perspective there AB. You also predicted late last season that Ribeiro would be the first line centre this season. And then this year that Plekanec would be the first line centre by next season.
Still stickin' by those?
Anyway, I don't want to discourage you, just keep your feet on the ground Keep those predictions coming. I don't risk too many myself.

I never ever said that Ribs would be our first line center this season, last season. I said part way through last season that he would have more points than Saks and he did by the end.

I did though predict that Plecs would be our first line center next season if Gainey didn't make roster moves at that position.
