--Striet.. hes a bum. maybe trade him off to the caps or one of the bottom dwellers of the league for a 2nd or 3rd round pick... he would get actually get some playing time on anthor team.. cause with a few of are guys down in hamilton gonna make the jump soon to the big club he will be never used so y not let him play some where else... and im sure he isnt gonna be a guy to turn into an allstar after we trade him.

--i could be wrong but is selanne a UFA or RA this year.. im still not sure how that works. but if he is i would go after him. he would make koivu a way better player.. im sure this has been said alot over the past 8 years or so since theve played together in the 98 olympics.. i remember hearing years ago that they should go out and get selanne

-- Loungo..  now that he knows theo is gone does he still wanna sign to florida or know knows he has a chance to sign with the habs.  this is an intersting one.. if he is still a free agent at years end i would put a bid on him and i would say anywhere in the 60-80% rang he would accept.. for what type of money im not sure...

then that leaves Huet and Abby.. if huet decides to go back to euroup then part of the problem is solved. but i know Abby isnt gonna wanna be a back up(if we signed loungo) so then we can trade him to for a decent player or a good draft pick cause we got dannis and price coming up in the future.

but if huet decides to stay then we got two damn good goaltenders. and i would leave it at that...

if we did sign loungo then one has to go for sure. i would keep huet and read above for what to do with ABBY..

i guess thats it cuase i cant seem to find a list of the players who will become free agents this year so i cant really say who i would like to add..... if any one can find the list please post a link that would be cool and then ill add to my list of who i think would be cool and good for the blue-blanc et rouge

I wouldn't cry too much if we lost Streit, Downey, Murray, Dagenais (if he still counts), Bonk, or Sundstrom for nothing in return.

I would be OK with losing Ribeiro, Zednik, Perezhogin, Dendenault, and one of the goalies if we had something of value in return.

The rest of the guys, I'd like to see stay here!

Ditto to all of yours Nilsey..throw in Kovalev if we can get something decent in return who would show up every night.

If possible, I'd keep both Aebischer and Huet, so that between one of them we have goaltending. I like Huet, but he could still be a flash in the pan.

On defense, I think Markov and Rivet are essential to the team. I like Souray too, but he's been so maddeningly up and down I'd probably be relieved to lose him if we could get something really good in return. But guys like Souray are hard to come by. Komisarek must stay. Bouillon is a great #5-6 D who can play #4 and doesn't demand big money. Dandenault I could care less about. Same goes for Streit, Cote (I wasn't that impressed with him, but he was ok), etc...Don't know about Simpson.

For me Kovalev is still a keeper. Obviously same goes for Koivu. Young guys like Higgins, Plekanec and Ryder are key. Perezhogin is definitely talented, but since Kostitsyn and Latendresse are coming up, maybe Perez is the guy to trade for a top-level player. Don't be surprised if Perez turns into a 30-goal man in this league though.
No way we get rid of guys like Begin and Bulis. (I hope!)

As for Zednik, Ribeiro, Sundstrom, Bonk, they all play their roles on this squad, but they are all expendable if a trade needs to be made. Zednik is probably the only one worth anything in a trade, and we do have our share of scoring wingers coming up, probably our deepest position besides goalie. So as much as I like Zednik, and as much as he's doing well right now and looks set to get hot for the playoffs, I'd have to say he'd be my first choice to trade (if we're talking about a real trade where we get something in return).

Zednik, Dandenault or Perezhogin. Also maybe one of Aebischer, Huet or Danis could be traded.
(Ribeiro, Bonk, Streit, Sundstrom, Downey being basically untradeable unless we are giving them up for pretty much nothing)

I'd hang onto Perezhogin - he's a rookie.  He's shown little flashes out there and he's got upside.  At least give him another year.

The others are pretty much dead weight, with the exception of Zeddy.  We need to pick up some size upfront and a stalwart d-man in the off-season.

I agree with you that Zednik and Perezhogin are not dead weight by any means. My point was they are some of the only guys we could afford to trade who are actually worth something in a trade. It's easy to list the players we don't want. Hard to list the good players we would be comfortable letting go.

If I had to list the guys I would let go (for nothing), it would be similar to everyone else's:

Sundstrum, Ribs, Streit, Bonk, Murray, Downey.  I am leaning towards Komisarek too because the patience is running out, but I'll give him one more year.

If we could upgrade all of these clowns, just think how much better we would be.  That is the difference between the Habs and most of the good teams.  The supporting cast just isn't there.  Probably missing a goal scorer as well , but Kovy needs to get his ass in gear (same for Ryder - dude can't pick a corner if his life depended on it, right now).  As a result of the Theo deal, we should have some cheddar to go out and get a couple decent guys.

Don't give up on Komisarek. He's the kind of guy who'll be a slow developer. But he's been pretty good since the break, on the whole. I'm seeing a lot of improvement, especially when you consider what he's been through this season. This is all character development stuff.

I agree with this post the most. It's more about adding a couple key players than about dismantling the team!

Ok...here is a complete list of free agents and their status (ie Group II, III, IV, V, and VI) each group is explained at the bottom of the list. Some players have already signed and it is noted next to their names. Please don't shoot the messenger for a long post lol

2006 NHL FREE AGENTS
Compiled and updated by Cory Brolund
Last Update: March 9, 2006 3:30 pm

Well here it is, just in time for the new year, the 2006 Free Agent List. Players are broke down
into their respective categories, with players who have played 7 or more seasons, but not at
Group III age listed as UFAs. The new Group III age is 29. Also next to Group VI players are
number of NHL games required to become Group II this year. This was based on career games
before the 05-06 season. Also there are a number of players listed here that have retired, I
will be fixing that soon. Until then Enjoy!!!

Eventhough he's a Group II free agent, I make a run at getting Patrice Bergeron.

Congratulations, Peart, on the longest post in GoHabs.com history!  (The next fifty-six longest belong to Barry33).

I hope you'll forgive me for not reading it all..............

Well, I agree with Nil's list of outgoing players. The ones I would consider bringing in (of course, some may not want to come here or may re-sign with their team before the deadline) are the following, but not in order of importance:

Forwards:

Arnott, Laraque (best muscle in the league and skilled), Dvorak (perfect fit for Pleks and Bulis), Isbister, Thornton, Grier, and Chouinard (right-shooting, two-way center).

Defencemen:

Chara, Redden, Lidstrom, Blake, Hill, Markov, Kubina, Jovanovski, and Weinrich.

Goalies:

Keep what we got.

Habtastic

P.S. I would also consider combining Perez with another farmhand and a vet or two and go out and get a guy like Nash or Kovalchuk. I am not saying those players in particular, but someone of that age and skill level.

I knew it was gonna be a long one but I figured it might help the inquiring mind if we had a complete listing to peruse. Alot of the names on that list are probably smoke and mirrors because I think alot of them will re-sign with their old teams but who knows....maybe this new CBA will lead to a healthy crop of free agents. I know I am liking the amount of money Gainey has to play with under the cap......
