THE habs sucked last night! there is no other way of putting it. they couldn't pass, shoot, score! they played like they were losted. not, one player showed they wanted to play against tampa, and to single out 1 player would be wrong! I read on another post that ryder should be the scapegoat for this game and a lot of people got on the bandwagon of how bad he is, the rut he is in! shame on you all!!the kid is in his second year, he can't carry the team, he has 24 goals and no matter what happens for the rest of the year, he is still learning and growing!! THIS LOSE WAS A TEAM EFFORT, DON'T SINGLE OUT ONE PLAYER!! FACE IT! THE HABS SUCKED LAST NIGHT.

Agree with your analysis. The reality is, this is a team that is still three, perhaps two players away from being a legitimate threat to go deep into the playoffs. At a minium at least one quality goal scorer (perhaps two) and another quality defenceman who can play at both ends of the ice. If the Habs are not getting above average goaltending, and not receiving a 100 percent work ethic from the majority of its players, this team as presently constructed is not strong enough to win games consistently on a skill level alone. Great goaltending by Huet has been the central reason for the Habs recent resurgence.
The team does have some of the parts in place to challenge in the years to come, and Ryder is certainly part of the solution. The critics say he is too one dimensional, does not read the play well, does not pass well and is a defensive liability. He is 24, less than two years removed from the ECHL, and yet is the clubs leading goal scorer! Unlike some players on the team he is at least doing one thing right. Even if he is and only becomes a one dimensional player, that dimension, goal scoring is invaluable. Can teach checking, not goal scoring. The offensive leadership should still come from Kovalev,Koviu,Zednik. As first and second year players, Plekanec,Higgins and Ryder are contributing more than expected, the veterans need to step it up now.

No denying he can't buy a goal lately though, and when he's not scoring he's not really a very good player at this point.
I still think he has the potential to be a good all-around winger though. He's shown the will to improve, and while his skating lacks style (I think heard the words "like a duck" from someone), he's better than he looks. And he has the potential to be a good hitter and has the skills to be a decent enough playmaker in the future.
And hey, unlike some of our other "snipers" Ryder keeps both hands on the stick some of the time.
