Tampa played a hell of a road game, first of all, second Montreal's effort was at spurts, if at all, Souray had one of his worst games, Komi, streit, Sundstrom and most of the other players couldnt hit a 5 foot pass, and we are beggining to see a pattern here by Huet. Two strong games in a row, and then a real fluke on the third game. Dont get me wrong, he still made great saves but, due to a brain cramp, much like Gainey's, Huet should've just let the period die. Gainey needs to play all lines, and Give kovalev as much ice time he needs to make something happen. He is the only player on the squad who when he hits the opponent Blueline, its more danger than not. Also we saw why streit does not play...JUST AWFUL!!! on the PP, why not go with what works???? first dont let Ryder handle the puck....He is not the best stcik handler...Gainey only put Saku and kovy together in the third Per PP...???cmon gainey we dont score too often so the chances we get to put these two together, LETS DO IT!!! our first PP should be Kovy , koivu, Higgins , souray and Markov. Second PP Ribs, Ryder, Plekanecs, Rivet and Dandenault. There is still a lot more, but this post is too long so ill stop here...

Hey did you not recognize that Gainey had them playing the trap again last night?

i absolutely did..and i thought to myself why!!! because tampa was sending 2-3 forecheckers the entire game.....thats a team who wants is more and is not afraid to lose.

You are absolutely right which was what baffled me..Tampa played an aggressive 3-2 forecheck all night. Gainey seems to insist on playing a 1-4 trap. If you noticed, alot of our chances last night were either blocked or from far out. That is because with a 1-4 system you never establish a strong forecheck. But hey..they only scored 2 goals so that aspect worked.

A really good post! I was also saying that, no way the first PP should of ate the whole 120 seconds. Some poor coaching like you say in this game.

Come on now Barry. You know as well as I do that when you have a inferior team( Tampa has Lecavlier, St. Loius and Richards etc), then you have to play the trap. It's the only choice.
If Montreal goes toe to toe with most teams in the league...you get CJ's results.
I agree with Barry. The guys can forecheck with two players and still be discipline enough to get back. With the lack of offense on this team and with the new NHL rules, the trap won't win games for us. We need to get back to four lines attacking and wearing down the opposition that way. If you want to score, you have to give her on the counter attack and work hard deep after the shoot in if not carrying the puck. With one guy going deep, you won't recover any pucks. Pressure/pressure boys and skate just as hard on the back check.

Ahh yes..next year..the battle cry of the Habs fan for 10 years. My question is when do the excuses stop and results begin? Fire coach after coach. Poor draft picks (sad that the last top 50 goal scorer we had was Stephane Richer..just plain SCARY). As far as CJ's results..strange how they were good enough 2 years ago and at the beginning of the year Muller. Fact- terrible drafting. FACT- No goal scoring FACT-every year we are happy to squeak into the playoffs and if we upset a team in the first round..WOW are we ever doing well!!!!!!!FACT- guys getting paid HUGE $'s need to start performing or we are toast. And yes, we all know who they are.

I agree Barry. Bad drafting etc. My gut is telling me for the first time in over a decade that we have a patient captain at the helm( Gainey). I just feel like our rookies this year are solid foundations and Gainey will put the puzzle together over the next 2 years.
I just feel it. But for this year, when Ribeiro is your so called second line center...your gonna be in trouble.

Even sader than that is when your second line center and third center in the payrole department is the reason we're makin the playoffs. Not just in the last season but now also. As little offense as he brings us, it looks again like it's the offense that will get us over the hump.
The center that is your so called trouble spot is actually bailing us out. That's the sad part of all this! Absolutely no depth at center.
But yes I agree, Gainey will have to improve this position down the empty middle. For now, what little success we have, all the centermen deserve the credit for pitching in a little here and there. It's not like we have Iginla.
