Oleg Kvasha (a 27 year-old Centreman who is 6'5'' 230lbs and a right-handed shooter) was dealt by the NYI's to the Phoenix Coyotes for a 3rd round pick! The guy has 20 goal scorer...and 2nd line centreman...written ALLLLLLLL over him...OR AT LEAST a very reasonable risk worth taking!
...now do you all mean to tell And-o that the Habs couldn't have trumped that offer with a 2nd rounder???
Gaw'd...stuff like that just makes And-o wanna gag!!!
And-o will suck-it-up for now...but THAT is tough to take!!!

Ando could it be that the Iles didn't want to trade Kvasha to a team that's also fighting for a playoff spot?

Don't bother And-o right now, Limer. He's too busy gagging and sucking..............

Yeh, I agree, that guy would of helped us down the middle for sure. When was the last time we had a centerman score 20 goals and weigh more than 180 lbs?
Gainey taking a gamble by not adding to the team and hoping that they'll make the playoffs!
Could you imagine if they miss by a mere point or two? Gainey won't come across as being patient and building for the future but for being an idiot for not adding a little cheap juice!
JohnM wrote: Kvasha's not the guy. We have Bonk! Actually JohnM...that is an excellent point! The Habs can credit the entire PK (led by Bonk and Begin) with at least 3 wins this past week or so!
How the hell do you figure that? Before tonight's game, the Habs had allowed 6 goals in their last 18 PK chances - a stellar 67% PK percentage. PUHHLLEEZE!

Ahhh Nil...the Habs allowed 4 PP goals versus T.O....on 11 minors....on the 4th game in 5 nights...on the road.
Prior to this....and since...they have been damn near perfect!
Are you blind???
...Begin and Bonk (along with Rivet, Komi and Souray) have been MAJOR horses!!!

The more posts from And-o and AB...the crazier they get.

For the record, I don't even wear glasses.
Rivet, Begin, Komi, and Souray have drawn tons of praise on this site of late (and even Bonk). Who's the blind one?

No way...the Isles are done! ...and really is tough to take, especially when you wouldn't even have to lose a guy. Cripes, renting a guy would have been better! ...injuries happen - and Bob will regret not adding a guy who can ride the bumper cars alone to the centre slot!
LOL...Ando you really wanted a trade, no matter what...I agree, some players were picked up for almost nothing. I would of went as far as renting a player, we have the Cap space. I still need convincing that it's all worth it though. Will we go that far in the playoffs just by adding a rental? Maybe BG didn't want to screw with the chemistry. Several players are really starting to come around. Who knows Mr. Ando...who really knows?
I think you had a rough and frustrating day, am I right?
I would love to credit Bonk for something, anything, but let's wait till the playoffs to give him the credit.
Ah John...the guy has really grown to anchor the PK with Begin since Gainey and Carbo took over...why is this so difficult for you to accept???
...Saku has just plain stunk since well before the break...maybe he's tired...he's probably played too much...hopefully some rest will help...but when will the rest come??

Same goes for Saks! Let's hope they can redeem themselves in the playoffs! But as for Bonk, he is contributing with some good defensive play for now. Let's hope he can pot a few in the playoffs along with the other guys who can't score now.

I've only been hearing good things by the players about Todd Simpson and I just heard him in an interview. He sounds excited to come here. You guys know anything about this guy? I know he doesn't back down to anyone in the league when it comes time for a scrap.

If that is the case then that would be great. Not sure about Saku stinking, he seems to be plugging away, getting points, + player, faceoffs, minutes, etc... Maybe you need to get the glasses.

Every year at the trade deadline it seems that a bunch of marginal players are traded and made out to be the second coming of a superstar, or a player that can make the difference and put the team over the top, which in a majority of cases does not occur. Kvasha is another example. The guy is 27 in the prime of his carear and has never shown on any basis that he is much more than a third line player. Never scored more than 15 goals in aseason, has a deserved reputation for having a lousy work ethic, and can go into long periods of time where he does little on the ice. So as a third line center who would you rather have Thomas Plekanec who is younger and more upside, or Kvasha? Not a hard choice to make.
Trade deadline deals for the most part are overrated, seldom do the incoming players make a significant impact on the teams fortunes. Unless the team is in serious contention to win the cup, then the addition of arole player may help. where the Canadiens are at this point in time, how much of a difference would Recchi make, or a Keith Carney? A little improvement, yes but enough to vault the Canadiens into legitimate contenders this year for the cup, no.
Gainey did not trade away the future, cleared salary to have great room for well thought moves in the off season, not rushed short term fixes that will not cure the weaknesses of the team at this moment.
Good analysis. I think in general we have a lot of good and promising mid-level players. What we lack is a superstar who is also consistent. So I'm all for whatever it takes to make space to get one.

Good post Wright but you have to admit it's a gamble not to improve the team at least a little!
What if we miss the playoffs by a couple points? We then lose millions of revenue! It's one thing to build for the future but you still have to make the playoffs when your that close!
