Can anyone explain to me why Souray did not have the 'A" on his sweater last night? (or maybe he did and I just missed it).  If it was taken away it is a travesty. Say what you want but the guy is the ultimate team player, is well respected by kids like Komi, and he works his butt off every night. Which is much more than I can say about Kovalev.

…that is outrageous!  And-o is appalled!  And-o thinks we should all picket in front of the Bell Centre!  Unbelievable!

…wait a minute…Souray hasn’t been an alternate captain all season!

Never mind…

They stripped Souray of the A when the Habs best player, and leading scorer came back from knee surgery.  Rivet and Kovalev have worn A's since January.  Souray and Zednik shared the A until AK's return, and even you the Kovalev hater have to admit he is absolulely on fire since the Olympics.  But it has been a while since Souray wore a letter.  I know you will disagree Barry, but Kovalev does deserve the A.  I have heard nothing but good things on Sportsnet and TSN about his leadership skills.  But I will give you some credit Barry, you havent bashed Kovalev in a while.  Keep that up

Right you are...And-o forgot about that!

...and Barry33, Kovy has been on fire lately in terms of offense!

If you intend to point fingers at a 'leader', you picked the wrong one!!!

Guess i have been asleep lol...but in seriousness, a leader leads by example and working his butt off night in and night out..Kovalev? He has amazing skills and brings me out of my seat now and then...but he is not a leader. I want a leader who gets along with everyone in the room (Strike One), puts out EACH AND EVERY NIGHT (Steeeeeeerikkkeee TWO) and parks his ego at the door for the good of the team (STEEEEEEEERRRRRRIKE THREEEEEEEEEEEE).

Souray loves playing on the team. I doubt whether he is thinking about the "A" right now. He is leading by example with his much improved play. At times, he's showed signs of the Souray of 2 ago. Actually I'm satisfied with the way the "C" and "A" are distributed...Saks, Kovy, and Rivet. That would be my choice for many reasons. However, if Souray wouldn't have his occasional brain cramps, he's the only other player on this team that is Captain material.

I still feel that the "A" on Kovalev is more an execercise in ego stroking than anything. But hey, if it gets him off of the Nytol he takes before games and gets him to perform I am all for it. By the way, for those who say I should lay off him because he has had 3 decent games..,sorry. But for 5 million of cap space I expect more than that. If history repates itself he will now disappear for a couple weeks again.

Well, he can't make history repeat itself because there's no room for a half effort unless he hasn't been looking at the leaderboard. I agree that the motives for giving him the "A", weren't based on his leadership abilities or his consistency but it's the right choice. A coach has to get the best out of his players by treating them like individuals. Dicovering what makes a player tick...Gainey has been doing a good job at discovering what makes every player more effective.

Brain cramp?  Souray?  NEVER!  Like when he missed Forsbergs pass across that was right in front of him and Philly scored?  Like when he gave the puck away in the slot with 2 minutes to go?

I'm glad that he buried the game tying goal because he looks like a defensive liability a lot of the time.

Have to agree. Kovalev is still annoying at times, but he was far and away the most dangerous forward last night. Not to take away from him, but everything Ribeiro was able to accomplish was helped a LOT by the moves Kovalev was making. Anyway, that's the kind of player Ribeiro is, a very skilled guy who can pass and shoot but who needs linemates to clear space for him because of his skating deficiencies. In other words, a perfect complement for Kovalev.
