Great game by Ribeiro. I was happy to see him on the shootout. Also a really great game from Souray, although right after embarassing Kapanen and Desjardins he goes and gives the puck away right in front of his own net. They don't call them the Kardiac Kids for nothing.
The thing is, Ribs has been improving steadily for the last about 10 games. I think he'll continue to improve. I think he realizes that he has to play well two ways with the likes of Kovy and Perez.
I don't think you can question the talent? He always had the skill but it was the fact that he was soft on the puck earlier on. I think he may of been a little out of shape and had to adjust to the new rules also. He looks more solid on the puck now.
Truth was, he was still slow and soft on the puck at times. But the second effort was there and sometimes he'd win it back right after being ploughed. Anyway he had one really wicked hit and showed his stuff on the attack.
Anybody bothered about how Kovalev reacts after he fails to score? He just gives up sometimes and rolls his eyes, looking up at the roof. Other times he's everywhere and seems to have a third and fourth effort. Boy is he unpredictable. Imagine if he played at top speed all the time?
You know maybe it's a good thing that Koivu has a rivalry with Ribeiro and Kovalev. Maybe it makes those lines compete with each other to be better. I thought both top 2 lines were flying tonight. Higgins and Koivu seem to connect pretty well, and Perezhogin was part of a lot of the moves Kovalev and Ribeiro were making. I'd like to see a complete game from Ryder though. He's one of my favourite Habs but he's been looking uptight out there.

Koval;ev has a history of working his butt off when things go well and being indifferent when he is faced with adversity. Just look back to the playoff game where he got slashed and just stopped skating because he thought the ref should call it. As for Ribs, yes lets give credit where it is due. This guy can put the puck in the twine. That has never been an issue. It is getting him close enough to the net that he can get the biscuit that has been a problem. I see a second effort out there. The kid will never outmuscle anyone in the corners. Lets face it.

Ribs doesn't have the physical attributes not to get pushed off the puck but who care's...if he offers a second effort like he's been doing, he becomes highly effective. Ribs and Kovy are a great pairing but if want to make that line absolutely amazing, you slip in Higgins. I know that would take away from Saks... so then trade for sniper. Yes, I'm dreaming...

And-o understands your point here...but this guy has been just plain magical with the puck at a time when the Habs need offense! ...
Magical? Ovechkin is magical. Ribeiro has turned it up a notch and as Barry said, he is giving a second effort and playing really well. That is god news for the habs. He can be a pretty good offensive player.
But magical???What is that...his second "big" goal this season? Cripes, for a "offensive" player that is magical alright....as in a disapearing act magical...
But am I happy with Ribeiro the last two games? Oh yeah...I hope he continues like this...perhaps our second line center is back?

I thought Perezhogin wasn't bad as the third member of that line. Like Kovalev, but in a different way, he creates space for Ribeiro to work his stuff. Ribeiro is a very good player when he has lots of time to do his thing. But he is nearly useless (particularly in the uptempo new NHL) when he has to carry the play. Which is maybe why the Ryder-Dagenais-Ribeiro line was so terrible this year.
Those who complain about Kovalev and Perezhogin need to recognize how much they were a necessary part of Ribs success last night. It was a fully-clicking line. AND, because it's always a team thing in some way, part of the success of Ribs' line is due to the fact that we had three lines who were hustling last night. There was Koivu's line and the third line wasn't half bad either (they set up one of Ribs' goals).
Plus Begin and Bonk were really effective on the PK.
I remember saying this about a month ago who would you want in a shootout. If it were the last game of the year, the habs needed the 2 points, it goes to a shootout.....who are the 3....
Ribs was my 3rd pick, cause he has hands and with nobody to knock him off the puck, all alone, he's dangerous.....they i'd go with Kovy, Koivu, Bulis, Pleks....any of these guys i'd say...
Muller93 wrote: magical alright....as in a disapearing act magical... C'mon Mulsy...these past few games Kovy has been just plain awesome with the puck ~ that is all And-o was saying! ...and as for a disappearing act...well...you tell me!
Sorry And-O. I read your posts all wrong. I thought you were saying Ribeiro was magical. So my post was talking about Ribby.
Ya, I think you are right about Kovalev, he is pretty crafty. Fun to watch but a bit of an ego-maniac by the look of him. Plus...why can't he score on the shoot-out?
