New topic e-mail?
Permalink Closed

Well, I've posted 1,808 times with this new Board, and this morning for the first time I noticed this little tidbit on the bottom of the posting screen:

" Email me whenever there is a new post to this topic:  Yes    No  "

Has anyone ever said "Yes" to this question?  Is it an efficient way to do things?  I try to read all posts, but sometimes if the topic is not of great interest, I won't.   Maybe the default should be to send the e-mail unless you say "No".   But I suppose that would jam up your mailboxes!

Your thoughts on this feature?

Yeah, that's handy, especially when you're looking for a reply to something you started....

On the down side I just had a slew of emails titled "Reply to: Daigle blah blah, etc" that have to be cleared out

And one from a guy in Nigeria who seems to have a lot of money tied up that just a limited effort on my part would free, after which he'll happily share his millions with me...

Sounds reasonable to me, what do I have to lose... right?

I think he sent me one too!  Or some relative of his, perhaps...........

Hey nil d, Heres some advice. I too try to read all posts, but it is becoming hard because there are no longer only 20-25 new posts a day...we are almost hitting 75 new posts a day...easily 100+ on game days..heres what i do. When you sign on, click on your name, near the bottom of your profile, it lists the last 10 messages you wrote and last 10 topics you started, simply click on the last ones you did that you want to read the replies to and your done, simple as that!

The problem with that approach, Johab, is that there are many more posts than the ones I started, and most of them are more interesting than the ones I started, so I want to read those threads too.

What I do is get on the Board every hour or two and hit "recent topics" and read up from the last one I posted on.

Either way, with so many participants - which is a good thing - it's getting harder to catch them all.

I use the feature once in awhile.....if I want to see responses to the topics I am most interested in.  On the downside, you do get a zillion replies sometimes.  Johab's system is pretty good too, but mostly I just check most recent topics.

The email notification is handy when topics drop off the board.  Like Johab says, the action on this board is phenominal.....way more than it used to be...which is a great thing.
