Huet - I remember the Habs' first home game at the Bell Centre. Players were being called out one by one. The crowd was going nuts! Thoedore recieved one of the loudest ovations. So did Kovy and Saks...Approaching the last players to be named appears the virtually unknown, Crystal Ball Huet getting ready to come out on the ice. The announcer totally forgets or disregards him. I then see Huet almost ripping his Habs shirt off. When he was aksed about it not too long ago, he said it was all good. The same attitude he has on the ice...during the last few games I've actually caught him smiling. It's been awhile since I've seen a goaltender smile at that frequency.
He's different, there is something about him. His calm disposition, the way he seems focused at all times. Last night, a small player from Florida got in his grill and really said something that bothered Huet. I thought to myself that he would loose focus. It did not seems to affect him one bit. Can it be a player with so much promise was never noticed before? Did the CH mysteriously affect his approach to the sport?
In any case, I'm just having a great time looking at this athlete perform. Actually I'm just happy to be a Habs fan. Couldn't picture my winters without the CH.
Congratulations Crystal Ball, for being the 3rd recipient of the Molson Cup for the period of Jan/Feb. Who would of guessed?

And-o remembers that too...it was quite shocking!!!
...ain't it great how he gets visibly pi$$ed at himself when the other team scores - he just wants to win sooooo bad (versus Theo rolling his eyes to the heavens and shrugging his shoulders in disgust at his mates)!
And-o wishes that he was 'Crystal Ball's' agent though ~ CHA CHING!!!

CJ absolutely LOVED this guy and would have played him every night but was not given that option by his boss. Heut rocks. Too bad you could not just switch salaries with Theo and Huet.

Like I said, it's strange seeing him play now, that no one really noticed his full potential before. In the end, trading players will always remain a gamble.
I honestly REALLY like the guy, and hope they sign him for next year. Its nice to know that if Theo is a complete flop, Huet can hold the grounds. Because im still not confident in Danis or ....errm...Price...

Oh yeah, I forgot about that incident. It was too funny. I was at that game and it was awkward to see.

Apparently there were a few scouts who thought this guy would be really good. At least one believed he would be a #1. We are really seeing a coming out party of goalies this year. It is always really exciting to see a goalie who has been a back-up step up and become a top netminder. Remember that Hasek was the unknown back-up to Belfour in Chicago. This year you have Gerber in Carolina. Also, who had heard of the Ranger's and Phillie's goalies before this year? The one surprise is that Garon hasn't become the #1 many expected him to be.
The Garon trade never made much sense to me at the time it happened. I think we all knew Bonk was overratted, and Garon was a possible NHL starter. I am thinking that Huet was a much bigger part of this trade than we had originally thought. Some one, maybe Barry, had posted earlier about all of Huet's accomplishments in Europe. Maybe Gainey did see this, and it is also so refreshing to see a player exceed his expectations in our notorious underacheiveing city. How many players have just not been as good as we thought they would be in Montreal. Randy McKay anyone? Huet is a pleasent surprise, and his style reminds me a lot of Sir Patricks. Square always, gets hit in the CH with a lot of pucks, and has many posts hit on him. Hopefully Gainey is smart enough to lock this guy up for next year. Huet will bring us to 6th spot. At least I am hoping so.
