And-o can't believe that Streit was kept out of the line-up last night!
Does this mean someone was being showcased!
Souray tallied 3 helpers last night (quietly)! Rivet blocked about 10 shots (seemingly)!
...anyone else think Komi looked like a newborn deer in the headlights last night! This kid makes And-o's heart stop regularly...although I do like him for the future.
I totally agree concerning Streit. Actually, last night was a perfect game for Streit to have played in. The Iles are not a crash and burn team at the least. Streit would of excelled especially following the great effort he showed duringh the Games.
I'm not too sure about Dandenault any longer. His perormances night in and night out are at the most acceptable. We definately need a good mobile defenseman who is excellent in the transition game. I believe that the majority of the Habs problems is the transition game. Get that puck out of your zone and feed the forwards!!!

To be honest, at this time, Streit would be playing before Dandeneault if I were coach. Mistake wise, they are pretty much comparable, but Streit brings more in the way of skating and puck movement. I was totally excited when Gainey signed Dandy. But it is apparent that his lack of ability was just hidden under a much deeper team in Detroit.

I still think Dandy deserves to be in the line-up but right now, he's my 6th defenseman...and he has to hustle every game to keep that 6th spot. Curiuos to see where Dandy will end up if we do acquire a defensman in a trade.
I have a feeling we'll see a much different Dandy in the playoffs(if we make it). The guy has wheels, experience and two rings. I think he can turn it up another notch.
I just hope that last night was just some rust from not playing for two weeks. With the exception on Huet and a couple of moments where they scored, I thought the entire team looked discombobulated.

I just think it's a case of Gainey going with the same players that have been putting up wins before the break. He doesn't want to mess with the chemistry now as he's also sticking with the same line combos.
I just don't think he will make a trade if the Habs continue to win, no matter how messy those wins look. I hope I'm wrong.
I was happy to see Streit out of the lineup Tuesday night. Hopefully he asked for the rest of the year off! He has done nothing to impress me this season. He can skate, but his play around his own net is lousy -- no, horrible. I can think of two goals that went in off his skates, and many more where he danced around like a drunken marionnette while the opposition was tickling the twine with pucks.
He's not much help at the other end of the ice either IMHO. How many times has he taken twenty minutes to get off a shot from the point, only to see it blocked? He played agressively in the Olympics and that was good to see, but I'll take Dandy any day before Streit.
Dandy brings some toughness and size to the blueline. So does Komi and I think he's developing pretty well -- a ways to go with him, though. I agree with many posters that this team needs a smart, mobile defenseman -- someone who can help turn the puck around and move it out of our zone quickly and at the same time be smart enough to know how to help out in our own end and reduce those shots on goal against. If I were BG, that item would be at the top of my shopping list.
Now I must say something about Streit. I know this guy and his capabilities much longer than anyone of you guys. I followed his play and style for many years. What can you expect from a player who gets between 2 and 8 minutes of icetime? Have you ever made sports, where you play only a few instances and that way never can find the rythm? Mark clearly showed during the Olympics what he could be worth! To let him sit out will not help the Habs at all. I saw him playing in November, and I must say he did not do that bad during those games. I saw some other d-men who do not better at all. During the Olympics he cleared away the likes of Thornton, Gagne, Lecavalier etc. He only can play this style with the Swiss team??? The only difference is trust ... in the Swiss team he gets trust ... in the Habs team nothing like that. OK, 'nuff said!
Great post, Chris. I think Streit has value also. I think Dandy is being misused. He is a converted forward so let him play forward and be fill in if there is an injury or a penalty to one of the D. I would really like to see acquire Derek Morris from Phoenix or Jamie Heward from the Capitals. Ribs would look ood in both those places...
