I said before That I thought he would have a change of heart once he got back here. Plus even the Sedin twins are playing in Vancouver tonite so I think he would feel badly. And it could have been that Gainey was "Not as happy to see me" as Saks had hoped he would be lol. Whatever his motives I do not care. I know BG will find a way to rest him down the stretch. He has gained more respect from me for playing tonite and he is making a statement to the likes of floaters like Ribs. The statement?" I am here to lead us to the playoffs. Get on the train or get out. And as a habs fan, I LIKE that statement!

Hate to break it to you Andy but it was reported this morning that he will play. Maybe you should update yourself on the latest and greatest in hockey news.
i heard on the radio that Saku simply asked for the day off not the game. Any merit to that statement? heard it on the team 990 on my home from work. Could it be that the Montreal media blew something out of proportion yet again?
The French media blow something out of proportion.... Of course they did, just like the Ribs thing.... Some fans also like to get involved and help blow the information up beyond belief...

A number of the posters on this board did the same thing-blew the information up beyond belief and that too was deplorable. On this board that too is human nature, unfortunately.

There was NOTHING blown out of proportion. I caught the interview.
Reporter: "Saku, do you think you have anything left to play in New York Tuesday night"
Koivu: : "What do YOU think? I am exhausted. I just hope that Bob Gainey will be happy to see me when I get back and ask for the day off"
How would you intepret that? He was asked about playing Tuesday night and said he was going to ask for the day off. A moot point as he ended up playing. I said in the beginning that it was NOT a good time to ask a guy a question like that right after a loss of that nature and that he would probably have a change of heart when he got back..which, thankfully, he did.

How I would interpret that statement would depend on what my frame of mind is. If I am the type to give him the benefit of the doubt, I would say that he was trying his best to be funny, or at the very least, he would be asking to not participate in the game day skate or any other activities where he may be better off served having a nap. If I were looking to find fault with his character, I would interpret that quote as though he did not feel like playing Tuesday night.

To me he answered the question exactly how anyone would given the circumstance. What did the reporter expect for an answer? Boy..I just cant wait to go play another 3 periods in Long Island. I saw the interview. Saks was not trying to be funny. He was mentally and physically exhausted and, at that time, that was how he felt. A huge letdown after a huge and emotional loss, physically exhausted..the last thing on your mind that THAT particular moment is playing an NHL game.

Yes, well that was why I wrote the sarcastic post. That "x-face" emoticon is kind of lame because most people probably don't know what it's supposed to mean.
