The interesting paralel or comparison will be Sundin. Toronto plays tonite. John Ferguson Jr. has gone on record as saying he expects Sundin to play tonite ...quote "I expect Matts to play tonite. Yes it is unfortunate but we are in a playoff fight for our lives right now. Matts knew the schedule before he went over there. It has not changed in 2 weeks". IMHO opinion. if Sundin plays tonite (especially in lieu of the celebration and beer fest he had in Stockholm), and Koivu does not, it will not look good on Saks. Both are captains of their teams. Both teams are fighting for a playoff spot. Both played a tough final on Sunday. I am actually predicting that Koivu WILL play tonite. I think that what he said was a reaction at a bad time. And, as much as I fully disagree with And-O's way of delivering his opinions some time (I remember him callinG CJ a "moron"), I do agree with one thing. If this were Kovalev or Markov asking for the night off, people would be all over them. -- Edited by barry33 at 10:00, 2006-02-28
Well now Barry, I'd be the last one to question your direct quotes, but I find it a little strange that Claude Julien would misspell Plecanec's name and that John Ferguson Jr. (or the media source that quoted him) would misspell Mats Sundin's name! Is your "paster" defective?

Don't you think that this one is getting out of hand? So he is going to take the night off...big deal. Yeah its disapointing and he shouldn't have beaked off to the media about it. As I said before I would rather have him at 100% the following game than play at 60% tonight and possibly create more fatigure related problems.
Isn't part of being a professional, realizing when you may not be able to contribute at your fullest potential and then making the decision to let the healthy players carry the load? I'll bet you anything if he suited up, played like Bonk and made mistakes, people would be all over him wondering why he didn't take the night off. I'm assuming he's joining the team in Long Island, so he will be at the game - it's not like he's at home in his easy chair eating cheezies.
We've got much bigger (perenial) problems than Saks taking the night off.

Yes grammerman lol..actually the quote was on Team 990 so taken verbally not from a paper..so I have an out I will pass along Grammerman's concerns to Claude though. If it helps he is french and has a hard time spelling his own name let alone a new guy from Russia or where Czech

"If this were Kovalev or Markov asking for the night off, people would be all over them." They might be, but they probably wouldn't explode about it. (See the first post in this thread)
True enough and a very good point Plouf. It is all about your tone and ho wyou express your opinion. Thanks for pointing that out.

The Canadiens can expect team captain Saku Koivu in the lineup. Having returned home late from Torino, Italy, there were questions whether he'd be too tired to play.
Koivu, who notched 11 points in eight games, led Finland to a silver medal at the Winter Games.
-This is on the TSN site today. I am so torn about this. On the one hand I do not want him to get hurt. But on the other hand, boy if he plays he has scored points with me on the leadership front (I am sure that concerns him) as well as sending a strong message to the floaters on the team (and you all know who you are)

Barry...who's the source? If this is true, it rocks!

Both TSN and The Team 990. Koivu spoke to Gainey today and is ready to go. I am not sure if Gainey told him he had to play or if Saks had a change of heart but I do not care. Tired or not we need him and it sends a strong message. He has certainly scored big leadership points with MOI. SAKU SAKU SAKU
