why is it that some people think that the only way to better the habs is to trade away the future ! we have some good young players on this team( ryder,etc...)and to suggest trading them away to better our team now might solve the problems short term, but would it put the habs in a cycle of repeating the same problems next year, year after..... DON'T trade our future, build on it!!!!!!

I agree, Newf. Ryder is my favourite player, and I'd like to see him sign one of those long-term contracts!

For the same reasons that we have had a revolving coach door in Montreal for the past 10 seasons. The fans and media demand immediate results and have a "what have ya done for me lately" approach. I believe that we all (me included) need a dose of patience. We have gone through some VERY good coaches and traded, or worse, gave away, some very good players the last few years and we are still back to square one. Struggling to make the playoffs. year after year. Obviously the old approach of pulling the trigger has not worked.

The reason some people want to trade youth is because we have nothing else with market value. Someone said that there was a rumour of trading Ryder for Richards and I for one would be all for it. If you can get a better player, why wouldn't you do it? I like Ryder, but he isn't exactly a premier goal scorer is he?

Hi 24,
Would you agree that Richards is more of a playmaker than a sniper/goal scorer? The Habs have "0" players that you can call "goal scorer" besides Ryder.
I actually would love to see Ryder play on the same line as Richards. Playmaker and sniper.
If I had a chance to trade for Richards, I would try my best to keep Ryder out of equation.
I like Ryder but all I am saying is that IF there was a chance to trade for Richards and TB wanted Ryder, I would do it in a heartbeat. Yes, I would preferably trade someone else, but I guess the point I was trying to make was that someone mentioned this as a potential deal - I would totally go along with it. I would pretty much trade anyone on our roster for Richards, actually.
Richards only has 5 less goals than Ryder (18) and is 18th in points and a +5. Ryder is -5 and 124th in points. I would also trade for RIchards because he has a Conn Smythe trophy and has won a cup.
Yeah I would LOVE to see Richards on a line with Ryder because you are right that he is primarily a playmaker.
