After watching the first 4 games of the Round Robin at the Games, Gretz and his gang must be wondering why they selected Draper and Smyth and left out (not even as subs) Sidney Crosby and Patrice Bergeron. Hello? Not much research had to got into realizing that with more open ice, you need players with stamina who can skate and i mean wheel! Crosby and Bergeron would of made an impact on the last 2 games. I'm convinced it would of been a different outcome.
The whole team looks slow. They are always a step behind. Furthermore, with this open, they still dump the puck in and chase??? and Pat Quinn...I get queezy when I see him behind the "Tean Canada" bench. Wow, now there's a tactician. Our game plan - dump it in and crash the net. They look like a bunch of lumberjacks. The other teams have caught on Mr.Quinn. The team is predictable right now.
Change the strategy against the Czechs please! 0 goals in 2 games? With those players?

Like you, I felt that maybe we were heavying up too much on guys like Doan and Smyth/Draper and not enough on Crosby/Staal kinda players. I feel Syd would have excelled on that big ice surface over there..but hey..who am I to second guess the great one? Certainly IMHO, Crosby would have gone ahead of Doan and or Smyth.

I'm happy that they are seeing first-hand that we don't neccesarily have the secret winning combination. It's a level playing field filled with highly talented athletes. I was in heaven watching the Russians' last game. Hockey is just another game at the international level.
Perhaps we could have taken a few different players, but really, these are some of Canada's greatest we have. If they can't come together and form a working group, then I think the problem runs more than the players. (i.e Quinn!)

Well said.
And Quinn's gotta go. He can't get it done in TO and can't get it done Internationally. If he doesn't play Staal and whoever else in on the bus line, he's a fool. The Finns deserve the gold.
In the past, we had leaders like Gretz, Stevie Y, Lemieux. More than ever, this team is going to need a leader. I thought Iginla was the man but the players seem...I guess "lost" is the word.
Do you all feel the absence of Neidermeyer? Proto-typical International style defenseman. Too bad, he would of made a difference.
This is Canada's best, right. The media has been boasting at how the Canada B team would of been able to win a medal also. Honestly, I would love to have the Canada B team, with Staal, Pat Bergeron, Crosby, etc!!
Guys, I think when you're playing a smart defensive team like Finns, you need the Drapers and guys who make a living playing along the boards and can cycle or play strong in traffic while also going to the net!
Maybe, the problem is not enough Drapers on a team that needs a quick chemistry fix! Too much of the same type of player is no good!

You're right especially concering the defensive core. They're all big and not as mobile as they are on the an NHL surface. That's why Niedermeyer is a bigger loss than i thought.

You know what...why not? If Streit can be affective, why not Cube.
