Guys...And-o is worried sick about the Habs!

Six straight roadies...no true number one netminder...tired Olympians...media circus...deadline day...etc...etc...

...did our ship just hit (or slip on) an iceberg today???

Anyone else really worried???

What kind of rabbit can Gainey pull out of his hat on deadline day?

I don't know what ol' Bob has planned, but it had better be big! And as for the road games, lets just hope the boys show up! We can't afford to lose that many games because every game counts right now.

Gainey has made his bed now we habs fans have to lay in it. I too am worried. We are finishing the season with no number one goalie and Bob cannot go get one now because of the cap. Not only are we stuck with Theo, we are stuck with Theo and he has no chance of getting back on track this season. 5 million of precious cap space tied up in a commercial for hair growth and ice salt. As well, I have legitimate concerns about our coaching staff. We have 3 guys behind the bench who combined, may have 200 career goals between them. The trap is passe now. Can these guys coach in the new NHL? So far I say no. Averaging 20 shots a game whil the opposition is peppering us with over 40 will not cut it boys.

Barry, I think you've been out in the -30 weather too long; your brain is frozen.

First: Since Theo is injured, his salary doesn't count for the cap, so it opens up some room;

Second:  We have a #1 goalie, Cristobal Huet.  The job is his to lose; and

Third: All three of those guys could score (even Jarvis had a 20-goal year).  Jarvis had 139, Gainey 239, and Carbonneau had 260 - total 638.   How many of the current Habs will end their careers with 260 goals?  Not many.

im not too worried , huet has shown he can handle the workload , he has to keep it up, they are 6 road games but the competition isn't all that great , except for tbay and philly , and we have shown we can play with them, theo actually saves us money now , unless he still counts on the cap because its not a hockey related injury. i see us winning 4of 6 and staying in the playoff picture . all the teams have players at the olympics so it will be a wash.

I don't get this "tired Olympians" concern.  Doesn't every team have tired Olympians?  The Habs' six are not a lot compared to most teams.  I wuld think the better teams have the biggest problem in this regard.

What am I missing here?

Couple points Nilsey. No Theos salary does not count against the cap when he is out hurt. He will be back in 6 weeks. What do you do then with your new rent a goalie that will be counting against the cap along with Theo when he comes back and Huet? My point with the coaches we have remains valid. These guys were all defensive specialists. EVen when Gainey coached in Minny it was during a time where the trap was viable. Today's NHL teams will only succeed by pushing the puck ahead (that was my main complaint with CJ's style...he did not emphasize forward puck movement enough).  My early observations are that we are not getting any pucks to the net and that needs addressed.

Actually And-o, this team was the titanic starting back in Novemner. Fact is, Gainey would be pulling off a pretty spectacular feat if this team makes the playoffs at all.

Theo being injured does not change much of anything. He sucked anyhow.

Don't expect Gainey to forge ahead with any big moves this year I don't think. Gainey is busy building this team. Signing Saks was a move towards stability. Gainey will let the young up and comers move in.

We all need to be patient.

Watch what happens over the next 2-3 years. It will become more fun for all of us. Thanks to Gainey.

Folks, Montreal isn't get outshot nearly so much lately. Actually we outshot our opponents many of our last bunch of games, and when we were getting outshot (recently I mean) it was mostly because of taking penalties, not so much the style of play.

All is not lost.

However, we need to finish our chances better.

Another thing. In some ways we don't have much choice about not opening up the offense. Our defense is not that hot, so the forwards have to play conservatively. Notice that once we started getting some goaltending we started to play better all around.

I never suggested we rent a goalie; we have a perfectly good backup (Danis) on the farm. Bring him up, and put him in there to spell HUet every four or five games.

I agree with your "no offense" position - they definitely need more scoring (as does the Canadian Olympic team, apparently ).

Good to see the usual boo birds and negative naysayers are all alive and well.  I respect the opininions of people on this board who obviously know more than I do about the game, but come on here, have a little faith......why so quick to call it "game over"?  Theo was having problems anyway before his injury.  Now we don't have to have endless discussions about if he should sit or not....no choice.   Instead let's hope Huet hangs in there for us and that the rest of the team hangs in there for him.

If we could all get paid for being "armchair coaches" imagine how rich we'd be.

Well put, Mrs. H.  I was in favour of putting Huet in there after the break before any of this happened, so it's a non-issue now.  I don't think any of us are throwing in the towel; it's just one more kick to the groin in an already frustrating season.
