No comments about lack of leadership for team Canada.... They should have played their backup, etc....
Johnny- give it a rest and a huge collossal break while you are at it. A one game win where a goalie stands on his head and is outshot 4-1 only proves only that (like the Swedes versus the Americans in womens hockey) that in a tournament like this, a goalie can steal a game for you. Nothing more and nothing less. You seem to keep wanting to throw Koivu either directly, or indirectly, into your posts on here hoping to rekindle the debate and envoke a response. There is a huge difference between outshooting a team tremendously and losing to a superhuman goalie in a one game situation, or underperforming and making dumb mistakes on a consistent basis as Montreal has done this year. To try to compare the 2 situations is laughable to say the very least.

I had this feeling before this game that Gerber was gonna be sizzlin'.
Anyone think that that one WAS a goal after tons of video review? I thought it was in. Gerbers catcher was over the line. How could that be "inconclusive"? ...over the line.

Sure looked in to me, but the win was deserved based on Gerber's play. It was even a nifty save on that disputed one!

Actually, I see he played for the Sudbury Wolves, but is from the Soo............
But the announcers said he was from Sudbury. I should learn to verify these things.

Ooooohhhhhhhh YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! (sorry guys) What a day for Swiss hockey! It's unbelievable ... absolutely amazing. I thought our win vs. the Czechs was the biggest one, but I was wrong! This one even counts more!!!! Yes guys, well done! DiPietro is 35, lost some of his speed lately, play for EV Zug in the Swiss league, but today he's our hero. A canadian beat Canada! Wow!!!!

Congrats Chris...I would not be holding a Gold Medal parade on Zurich Square just yet but respectability is built in smalll steps..and The Swiss have taken a couple this year.

No Barry, I remain realistic. Our team was outshot twice in a row, and got two wins thanks to tromendous goaltending. But it won't be like that in all games. The goal is the 1/4-Finals, anything beyond is a supplement we would take, but nobody expects. So there won't be any pressure should the Swiss reach the 1/4-Finals.

And you know what..? Those are the scariest teams to play..the ones who have nothing to lose! The combo of a hot goalie and Canada playing like they were trying NOT to lose, rather than playing to win made for a bad combination (unless you are swiss hehe). But they are to be totally commended..I take my touque off to them!

Touchy Barry? I think he was just saying that sometimes with all the leadership in the world---goaltending can make or break ya. Sometimes its not all about leadership, as some would have us believe...
Not touchy Muller...just growing tired of the rhetoric. To compare a team where they practice together twice and then start playing games, to a team that has been together all year is just plain silly and you know it as well as I do. I would come down JUST as hard on AB or And-O if they tried to make such a silly comparison to favour their anti-Saks stance. Koivu has been captain of the habs for years..Sakic has been captain of Team Canada one week? The similarity is...??

Actually I was throwing all the posters who like to blast players/coaches into the mix. Similarity is that Canada is a powerhouse and got beat by a team who shouldn't even be compared in the same tournament... Someone has to be held accountable for the loss, no? Too bad CJ wasn't the coach...

No No. I agree. I think the point was that goaltending can make or break you. Like with Theo...you can have a decent team playing...but with horrid goaltending, the outcome can be bad...no matter what the leadership. Or the other way around...with outstanding goaltending from the opposition, you can lose a game despite leadership. That's all.
And it's hard to argue Theo having not just a bad year...but horrid...maybe worst in the league.

Great reply Barry. It was bringing me back to when I played AAA. My team was Ontario Finalists a few times, and always knew when we played the teams with 7 skaters and 1 goalie that we were in for it. Not a thing for them to lose at all. Also, does the swiss team remind anyone of the 93 Habs? I mean out played every game, but having absolute magic between the pipes. In 93 it could have been an extra twitchy Patrick Roy against any 5 shooters and the Habs would have won, and Gerber looks to be that hot right now. Goalies win Stanley Cups, and possibly Gold Medals again. (Haskek)
