Hey everyone, I’m back with another entry in my canadiens.com diary. I hope you enjoy it!
What a month January was. I never knew that January was such a good month for me. I saw that I put a few points together so that helps in getting your confidence back and you start playing better. It was a good month for me and hopefully I can finish the season that way.
When I was on that scoring streak, I didn’t really have any superstitions. During those times, you pretty much just try and keep the same stick, unless you break it. A good example is the four goal-game I had in Philly. I actually ended up using that same stick in Toronto that weekend and got a goal and an assist there, but after that I took it home and that’s where it is now.
It was fun getting to play center lately. Playing center, you have more skating options, you move around more, have more skating to do. I like both; I don’t really prefer one over the other. It just depends on the day – sometimes you play well on the wing and sometimes you play well at center. I guess if I had to choose, I think I’d go back to center. There’s no difference in the way I “prepare” for the positions. You just go in knowing that you’re playing either center or the wing and just go into the game like that. No special preparation or anything.
When I play with Zed and Bonk or Zed and Plekanec, we always speak Czech on the ice. It’s even better when you’re in the face-off circle and the other team doesn’t always understand what you’re saying, so you can decide who’s going to do what, so it’s a bit of an advantage.
I don’t know if Zed and I will meet at the Olympics but if we do, it’ll be weird. It’s going to be the first time we’re playing against each other in our careers. I think it’s going to be fun. We’re looking forward to it. It’s not like we’ll go after each other or anything like that. It’ll be more messing around with him. It would definitely be nice to play against each other, but you never know how the tournament’s going to go, so we’ll see if it happens.
I enjoy the Olympics. I’m definitely a fan. Pretty much any time they happen, summer or winter, I watch both. I enjoy all the sports, especially ski jumping, downhill skiing. It’s fun.
I’ll be by myself at the Olympics. None of my family will be there, unless we go to the semi-finals or the finals. If we go deep, my dad or my wife will most likely come join me.
Being gone for the Olympics and with the long road trip when we come back, I’ll be gone for nearly a month, so I’ve spent most of my free time with my son. It’s a long time to be away, I’m going to miss him. He’s growing up so fast. When we came back from the road trip at the end of January, I came home and noticed a difference. He’ll probably be walking when I get back. He’s 10 months old now and he’s already crawling and pulling himself up, so it’s going to be exciting.
Thanks for reading. I hope you all enjoy the rest of the Olympics. See you back at the Bell Centre March 11!
Jan Bulis is a forward for the Montreal Canadiens. Diary transcribed by Heather Engel, site assistant for canadiens.com.
This diary totally confirms the way I always thought Bulis ,the person and not the player, was like. He always seems to be smiling on the ice. Maybe it's his mouth piece or maybe he's just genuinely happy to be playing this great sport. Keep it going Jan.
