I was listening to Pierre Maguire on the Team 990 with Mitch Melnick last night and Pierre was asked if he thought it was a good idea to have a pre and post NHL break in an Olympic year.
Pierre had a good idea. He simply said that the NHL should cut the season to 72 games in an Olympic year. I agree but I think a 76 game sked would be better. 72 games seems too short.
This option improves the problem of potentially "fatigued players" but it doesn't remove the injury isssue. I think if they decide to allow pros at the Games, they shoudl opt for a similar modification the the NHL sked.
Yes it's true but the GM's are realizing that loosing a player due to the Olympics can cause their team to loose millions of dollars in the end anyway. Whether it's from injury or fatigue. Look at the Habs, they're in a playoff hunt. It's left to be seen whether the Games will have an adverse affect on making the playoffs. Not making the playoffs - a risk that involves losing the opportunity to make millions.
