Remembering Doug Jarvis-A Hab Fans Moment.

One of the worst trades Toronto ever made was to send Jarvis to Montreal for Greg Hubick just days after drafting the young center out of Peterborough in 1975. Hubick went on to have little impact with the Leafs, while Jarvis started his career by playing in a record 964 straight games and winning Stanley Cups in each of his first four years with the Canadiens. He was the definitave answer to two-way hockey. A player who inherited Bob Gainey's title as best defensive forward and penalty killer supreme.

It was soon after he missed his first game on October 11th, 1987, that his career ended. He was sent to Hartford's minor league team in Binghampton, and began helping out as an informal assistant coach.

From there, he retired from playing, assumed a more formal title, with the club, and worked his way up to the NHL, first with Minnesota and then with Dallas when the franchise moved in 1999.

Rumour has it that Red Fisher put a bug in Harold Balllard mind saying "Do you want a religious guy like Jarvis on your team?" Ballard wasn't one for the religious types so Sam Pollock hearing this approached Ballard & made the deal with Ballard also at that time Roger Nelison was the coach of The Petes and Jarvis even though he was a junior had the reputation of being one of the best faceoff man in or out of The NHL and Nelison was buddies with Scott Bowman then coach of The Habs and Jarvis become one of the pieces of The Habs Stanley Cup puzzle........

Recchi is the modern iron man, but not sure if he passed Jarvis.
