As I mentioned earlier this month! Ribs has a contract that I think if he continues to improve, will make good trade bait! When playing to his potential, is not overpaid!
If you're Gainey do you take that opportunity and trade him or do you forgive him for his poor play at season's start and continue to play him with Kovy?
I think you have to continue to play him with Kovy. Those players really compliment each other. That line can really cause chaos in the opposing zone. However, Ribs always seemed like a wishy washy player. Obviously, if other teams have interest in him, he is surely not untouchable. He's still young and talented...if he continues his strong play, many teams will start giving him a second and third look.
I say keep him. His potential outweighs his value at the moment. If the little bugger would just grow up a bit and stop making an ass of himself with the gangsta crew suits etc, he could be a pretty fancy playmaker...kinda like Craig Janney or an Adam Oates...
You just have to be careful with guys like that. You have to make sure you have a team full of grit and grinders to support him.

I guess I'm a little surprised at this post Muller! But maybe you're right! He's still a young player and has potential! But then if he has another poor playoff showing (if we get there) we will have missed our window! Is it fair to judge him on one playoff performance when he was just getting his feet wet?
I for once don't know what to say! Trade him or keep him?

That's just it AB I think. Even if Gainey tried to trade him now...we would get nothing in return. And I mean nothing...probably a third round draft pick at best.
So it's better to keep him and cross our fingers that he matures under Gainey and Carbo. That potential is worth more than his trade value at the moment. I have noticed signs of maturity with him the last month or so. No use comparing ribs to Koivu however...they are completly different players and Ribby is not leadership material...EVER.
Did you see him and Kovalev talking on the bench last night? Ribeiro seemed to be happy to be on a line with Kovalev and trying to learn a little( mind you I thought Kovalev kinda looked like the terminator during that exchange...he barley looked at Ribs...it was kinda creepy).

It was hard to get a read on that as it could of been a show because he was miked!(no punn intended)
I quess if you base it on only getting a third draft type deal than keep him but I think we could get more! I think many teams like him! Remember how much Oilers wanted him last time? I think it would of been Ribs for Comrie! Comrie also a good passer but better speed! But that was then! If he continues to improve, we may get a good player in a package type deal!
If Ribs continues to play well due to the coaching change he could get away without working hard etc with Julien but now with the Gm & Carbo being on his case and no Dagenais (not the world's fastest skater) he has been forced to pick it up (skating/passing) - He could turn into (hopefully) a Marc Savard type player although Savard has a pretty good winger to play with but it took Savard a few teams & some growing up to find his way or spot in the NHL............
