5 Habs at the Olympics

This concerns me. The Olympics require that you play every shift with the highest of inensity. When the Habs get back, they can't afford to have off nights. We're in a playoff hunt. Our "so-called" key players may come back mentally drained. How does BG handle this. Days off? Have them skip some practices? It doesn't help that when they get back the Habs have half a dozeb road games to start off with. Like I said this concerns me.

Maybe it will work to our advantage. It may keep the guys in a noncomplacent fame of mind. Keep the competitive edge without droppin' it because of time off. That's what I'm hoping.

I hear ya, though. The Rangers have five going too.

Hey Key Lime, I totally agree with you, but what can you do?  If you had a chance to play for your country I am sure you would take it.  BG is a very smart man and I am sure has a plan on how to rest these players.  Maybe when we get a lead you will see a lot more 4th line to rest Saku and AK.  As for Zednik, I don't think it will matter as he has been a healthy scratch a few times lately. Bulis doesn't know the meaning of the word quit or tired, so he will be fine, and Markov is a total work hourse, so he will be OK too.  It will sure be interesting to see though.  And I cant wait to see the AK bashing when he lights it up at the Olympics.  I heard he will be playing with Ovechkin, talk about 2 guys that can make any 2 defensemen back up with fear.

I agree with you, Johab.  Plus, how many Habs are on good teams that will play a lot of games?  A guy like Streit will benefit from some action, after sitting out eight straight games (same for Zednik).  The ones I worry about are Koivu, Kovalev and Bulis.  I hope they don't get hurt or overused.

I forgot about Streit.  Who are are 5 then?  Kovalev, Koviu, Streit, Bulis, Zednik, and Markov.  That is 6 to me, do I have one of them wrong?

I cant see the "rest when we get a lead theory". We have seldom had a lead of mor ethan one goal all season..hell we seldom score more than one goal

How does a team like France "qualify" or not "qualify" in the Olympic hockey tourney?

Round Robin or something?

At least we know now Huet won't get injured.

a) the whole of France lists 13 hockey players.
b) there is no legitimate pro league (if any).
c) name 2 players from France ?

I think Sebastien Bordelaux played for France... Can't remember what the tournament was at that time, but I'm pretty sure that it happened. Must have been the Olympics because France doesn't play in the World Cup to my knowledge... But I've been wrong before!

Wasn't Guy Lafleur going to play for France one year?  Some time around his retirement (one of them), I believe.  I don't think he did, though.  My mind is fuzzy on this one............

I remember when I was young, I went to the forum to watch the Canada Cup, Checkoslovakia (sp?) vs Team Canada. It was a real good game. Ever since then I've really been into National games.

Nil d - Actually Gainey went to France and played there after his NHL playing career ended before going to Minnesota with Bob Clarke......The name of the city I do not know but it was in The Alps and the nick name of the team was The Squirrels but in French. During the lock out Gainey's son Steve went back to France and played for the same team as the old man - I remember reading a blurb about this earlier this season, Bob when he went was player/coach/Zamboni Driver/learned alot of French etc and Steve was just a player.........

Gainey in France I remember well, but I still think Lafleur was planning on playing for France in either the Olympics or World Championships (maybe B Division) or something................

CJ played 2 years in Paris..he said it was the easiest Gig he ever had. They only practiced once a week, played twice a week. Travelled on a big bus complete with beds and TV's/VCR's and the games were not tough. Plus he had a furnished Condo in downtown Paris all paid for along with a car..ohhhhhhh to be a hockey player.

Nil d - If Lafleur was planning to play hockey for France - I guess they did not come up with enough cash for him because some the commerical endorsements he has done over the years.......playing hockey with cell phones/batteries-his drink Flower Power but the best one I saw (lol) and have which I got at Sears at a clear out price several years ago just after he reired again was a VHS instructional tape on hockey in which he is asked questions etc and he gives his opinion on - about the best type of hockey equipment to buy how should fit - how to pass/shoot/skate/playing different positions etc and I think it had highlights of his career on it so that was good - I still have somewhere but it was painful to watch...........
