How was Huet?
Permalink Closed

Didn't see the game (saw the highlights this morning).  Huet's numbers were respectable - 3 goals allowed on 34 shots - and there's not much he could do the stop that one in OT.

So could someone evaluate his game for me, please?

He played another solid game. No chance on 2 out of the 3 goals. He possibly could have had the 1st one. The second one was tipped in and the third well no chance.

Hardly any rebounds. Overall great game. Miller also had a great game. No chance on either goal.

Well Nilsy...in a nutshell…here is the game from And-o’s eyes for you…

…the best Habs on the ice all night were Higgins, Huet and Kovalev. In fact, Higgins looks more and more like the real-deal each passing game…Huet just plays flat-out for this team…and Kovalev looks like he is actually starting to care again (undoubtedly due to the upcoming Olympics).

…on the other hand, the worst Habs by far were Zednik and Komisarek. And-o is just at a loss to explain the play of Zednik this season. He is likely the Habs most valuable trade-bait at this point. As for Komisarek, his clearing attempts often leave And-o’s heart drop-kicked across the living room floor (youth and inexperience I guess) and I fear opponents will start charging straight for him when he shoots from the point because he often does not get the puck deep.

…also, referee Koharski’s continued weight problems hampered his positioning ALL NIGHT LONG…hence some unfortunate perspectives resulted in botched calls!

However, having said that, there were a few absolutely selfish and totally lazy penalties taken in the dying seconds that pretty much cost the Habs a point (5-on-3 in OT)…and wasted a solid 60 minute effort.

…that’s about it!

Nilsey- Huet is the real deal. I would not have said that when I first saw him, but I will say that as much as Rland Melanson has been maligned about the work he did or did not do with Theo, he needs to be praised about what he has done with Huet. What I like no wabout Huet is he is so fundamentally sound. If you watch him he lets the puck hit him. And he controls his rebounds. Too bad he is off to Swiss land next season.

Thanks for that analysis, And-o.  I notice you didn't name names in the "lazy penalty" comment.

I share your opinion on Higgins (a good one; rapidly becoming one of my favourites), Zednik (what's going on with him??), Kovalev (seems to be "on" right now, but how long will that last?) and Komisarek (big regression this year - his mother's passing, or something else?).  I thought Komisarek had been playing a little better of late; sad to hear he was bad last night.

As for Koh-arse-ki, I have nothing more to say (fat %^$#@!).................

Huet was great, as was Ryan Miller, both goalies made crucial saves to their teams in it when the pressure was on. I look forward to the rematch.

Zednik has got to be the worse guy a receiving a pass, how many times does a pass come his way and he can't handle it!  When he does he usually loses it when he tries to skate with one hand on the stick.  One other thing i noticed, it seems he is out of position alot in our end, as alot of defenceman seem to be open all the time when puck comes to Zedniks  wing.  He's not the only one, but it seems alot of times when a puck is shot around the boards or an opposing winger passes it back to the point  we have no coverage, thus alot of shots and oppurtunities arise.

he played fundamentaly sound , in the post game interviews he seemed tired I mean emotionally , as Glenn Hall was quoted recently it is the mental part of the game that controls every thing else ...Huet would have been up for the first few games replacing Theodore but to be that mentally ready on a consistent basis has to  challenging to say the least .....

I would also agree with and-o et al on Higgins , howver I disagree with him on Komi ...he made a few mistakes , but he seems to be getting better and better .....

I agree about Komi, he layed some people out last night, did get some shots on net, and his decision making was better.  I think RDS said something about him logging the most minutes amongst the D in the 1st period... over 7 mins.  There is almost no way I would trade this guy.
